HONORING Firefighter Roger Espinal posthumously
upon the occasion of the renaming of a street in the
City of Glen Cove, New York, in recognition of his
heroic and remarkable life
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of
certain extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their
valued contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Firefighter
Roger Espinal posthumously upon the occasion of the renaming of a street
in the City of Glen Cove, New York, in recognition of his heroic and
remarkable life; and
WHEREAS, The street sign dedication in Roger's name will take place
on Saturday, February 29, 2020, on Stewart Drive in Glen Cove, where he
and his young family made their home; and
WHEREAS, Roger Espinal of Glen Cove, New York, died of World Trade
Center-related illness on September 14, 2019, at the age of 42; and
WHEREAS, In 2000, Roger Espinal began his illustrious career with
the New York Fire Department (FDNY) as a paramedic and became a
firefighter at Engine 330 in Brooklyn; several years later he
transferred to Engine Company 320 in Queens; and
WHEREAS, Firefighters such as Roger Espinal exemplify the power of
human compassion and the strength of the American spirit through actions
of the most heroic magnitude; their sacrifices and their selfless
dedication merit tribute and recognition by all citizens of this great
country; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body cannot express sufficient gratitude
to those devoted individuals who recognize that the preservation of life
and property is a sacred responsibility and who make that responsibility
their own by serving as firefighters; and
WHEREAS, Roger Espinal is survived by his loving wife, Miriam, and
their beloved four-year-old son, Noah; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Firefighter Roger Espinal posthumously upon the occasion of the
renaming of a street in the City of Glen Cove, New York, in recognition
of his heroic and remarkable life; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Firefighter Roger Espinal.
