COMMENDING the Foundation for a Drug-Free World
upon the occasion of hosting its 13th Annual
Drug-Free Heroes Awards Gala on May 28, 2020

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend those
illustrious organizations of the State of New York whose focus and
intent have made a substantial impact on the quality of life in their
communities; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend the Foundation for a Drug-Free World upon the occasion of
hosting its 13th Annual Drug-Free Heroes Awards Gala on Thursday, May
28, 2020, in Leonard's Palazzo, Great Neck, New York; and

WHEREAS, The Foundation for a Drug-Free World holds its annual gala
in honor of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime International
Day Against Drug Abuse, the chapter honors local officials and community
leaders who have largely contributed to drug education and awareness;
and

WHEREAS, The Foundation for a Drug-Free World is a nonprofit public
benefit corporation which empowers youth and adults with factual
information about drugs so they can make informed decisions and live
drug-free; and

WHEREAS, This vital organization provides the facts and empowers
youth to choose not to take drugs; additionally, its Truth About Drugs
campaign consists of simple and effective activities which popularize
drug-free living; and

WHEREAS, Through a worldwide network of volunteers, 50 million drug
prevention booklets have been distributed, tens of thousands of drug
awareness events have been held in some 180 countries, and Truth About
Drugs public service announcements have been aired on more than 500
television stations; and

WHEREAS, These materials and activities have helped people around
the world learn about the destructive side effects of drugs; and

WHEREAS, Over its distinguished history, the Foundation for a
Drug-Free World has demonstrated continuous service to the residents and
communities which it serves; and

WHEREAS, The success of the Foundation for a Drug-Free World is in
direct correlation to the efforts of its dedicated staff, whose
involvement is, and always has been, characterized by an impressive
commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of
excellence in all endeavors on behalf of the organization and the
community it serves; and

WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents an opportunity for this
Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to the Foundation for a
Drug-Free World; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals and organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by
all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Foundation for a Drug-Free World upon the occasion of
hosting its 13th Annual Drug-Free Heroes Awards Gala on May 28, 2020;
and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Foundation for a Drug-Free World.
