COMMENDING Jodi Seiff upon the occasion of her
designation for special recognition at the New York
City Women's History Month Ceremony on March 25,
2020

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to acknowledge
and celebrate individuals and events of historic significance which add
vitality, sensitivity, understanding and inspiration to the diversity
and values of the people of this great Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Jodi Seiff upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition at the New York City Women's History Month Ceremony to be
held on Wednesday, March 25, 2020, at the Side Bar in New York City; and

WHEREAS, This auspicious event will be hosted by Kangol Kid with
music by DJ Donny Oh B; in addition, there will be Special Guest
Appearances by: CL Smooth, Roxanne Shante, Kool DJ Red Alert, Sparky
Dee, Big Daddy Kane, Grandmaster Dee, Funk Master Flex, Grand Puba,
Dinco D, Full Force, and Allure; and

WHEREAS, Born in New Rochelle, New York, Jodi Michele Seiff was
raised in the Bronx, where hip-hop began; she attended John F. Kennedy
High School before she and her family moved to Englewood, New Jersey,
where she completed her education; and

WHEREAS, With a true passion for music, including hip-hop, reggae
and R&B, Jodi Seiff began her New York City nightlife career in 1985 at
The Underground Nightclub and the legendary Union Square, where she met
her mentor Steven who took her under his wing; and

WHEREAS, During this time, Jodi Seiff also worked as the day manager
at Juliano's Restaurant until 1987, when she became the Assistant to the
General Manager and Personal Assistant to the owner of The Red Parrot;
and

WHEREAS, A few years later, La Palace De Beaute, formally known as
the Underground/Union Square, welcomed Jodi Seiff's return; in addition,
she served as Assistant General Manager at Emerald City and Personal
Assistant to the owner of Bentley's; and

WHEREAS, Jodi Seiff became General Manager of Shadow Nightclub in
1995, and for two decades, she hosted some of New York City's most
memorable events which included the attendance of some of
entertainment's biggest stars; and

WHEREAS, Under the luminous direction of Jodi Seiff, New York City's
hottest DJ's and the nation's hottest live musical performers in
hip-hop, club and R&B graced Shadow's booth and stage; her strong
relationships with all three New York urban radio stations allowed her
events to be considered the premier NYC nightlife events; and

WHEREAS, Renowned for her vital role in keeping hip-hop alive, Jodi
Seiff served as Manager of Cielo Nightclub NYC from May of 2015 to July
of 2018; she went on to organize 21 successful sold out Shadow boat ride
seasons; and

WHEREAS, New York State is home to countless women, strong and
colorful threads vital to the fabric of our rich heritage, who have and
continue to contribute to the advancement of our culture through their
traditional and non-traditional roles in society; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when events
of such noble aims and intentions are brought to our attention, they
should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of this great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Jodi Seiff upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition at the New York City Women's History Month Ceremony on March
25, 2020; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Jodi Seiff.
