COMMENDING Peter Potasiewicz upon the occasion of
his retirement after 25 years of distinguished
service in law enforcement

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor those distinguished officers and citizens who would devote
themselves to public service, demonstrating great courage and diligence
in providing for the care and welfare of the citizens of their
communities and this great Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Within every community of the State of New York there are
certain individuals who, by virtue of their commitment and dedication,
command the respect and admiration of their community for their
exemplary contributions and service on behalf of others; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Peter
Potasiewicz upon the occasion of his retirement after 25 years of
distinguished service to his community and the State of New York; he
will officially retire on February 24, 2020; and

WHEREAS, To celebrate this auspicious occasion, a party will be held
in his honor on Saturday, February 29, 2020, at the Roselawn in New York
Mills, New York; and

WHEREAS, Peter Potasiewicz was born in Utica, New York and raised in
Yorkville, New York; he attended Holy Trinity Elementary School before
graduating from Notre Dame High School in 1998; and

WHEREAS, Peter Potasiewicz began his illustrious career in law
enforcement with the Oneida County Sheriff's Office in 1994; and

WHEREAS, After five years of service, Peter Potasiewicz was accepted
into the Utica Police Department where he would continue for the
remainder of his esteemed career; and

WHEREAS, Within the Utica Police Department, Peter Potasiewicz held
many respected positions, including: CID, CAC, Warrants, Evidence
Technician, Crime Scene Investigator, Fire Arms Instructor, and Taser
Instructor, as well as Instructor for the Police Academy; and

WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife of 19 years, Cheryl,
and his daughters, Renee and Katelyn, all of whom feel privileged to be
a part of his life and rejoice in his many achievements; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those
dedicated public servants who unselfishly devote their lives to the
preservation of order and the protection of others are worthy and due
full praise for their commitment and noble endeavors; now, therefore, be
it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Peter Potasiewicz upon the occasion of his retirement from the

Utica Police Department, and wish him well in all his future endeavors;
and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Peter Potasiewicz.
