COMMENDING WAMC Northeast Public Radio upon the
occasion of its selection as an Outstanding
Community Partner by The Food Pantries for the
Capital District on October 4, 2018
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
organizations and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare
of the community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend WAMC Northeast Public Radio upon the occasion of its selection
as an Outstanding Community Partner by The Food Pantries for the Capital
District, to be observed at its 7th Annual Harvest Evening Celebration
on Thursday, October 4, 2018, at Franklin Plaza in Troy, New York; and
WHEREAS, Established in 1979, The Food Pantries for the Capital
District is a coalition of more than 60 food pantries located in Albany,
Rensselaer, Saratoga, and Schenectady Counties; each year, The Food
Pantries helps fund, collect, and deliver 2.9 million pounds of food for
its food member pantries, which helps provide food to 59,000 people for
approximately 3.3 million meals; and
WHEREAS, For many years, WAMC Northeast Public Radio has been a
strong supporter in the fight against hunger; this compassionate
organization is being recognized for its many contributions to The Food
Pantries of the Capital District, and to the people this valuable
organization serves; and
WHEREAS, WAMC Northeast Public Radio is a regional public radio
network based in Albany, New York; with the support of its loyal
listeners and underwriters, WAMC broadcasts through a network of 28
stations in parts of seven Northeastern states: New York, Massachusetts,
Connecticut, Vermont, New Jersey, New Hampshire, and Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, WAMC uses its airwaves as a platform to provide
high-quality programs, ranging from award-winning original regional
content to national, international, and cultural programs; the
programming covers topics including news, arts, business, environment,
education, and politics; and
WHEREAS, With more than 545,000 monthly listeners, WAMC ranks among
the most-listened-to public radio stations in the United States; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend WAMC Northeast Public Radio upon the occasion of its selection
as an Outstanding Community Partner by The Food Pantries for the Capital
District; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to WAMC Northeast Public Radio.
