COMMENDING The Honorable Betty Staton upon the
occasion of her designation as recipient of the
Lifetime Achievement Award by the Neighborhood
Technical Assistance Clinic on June 9, 2020

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve
the best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration
and cannot be sufficiently extolled; and

WHEREAS, Betty Staton has given not only of her time and energies
but also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
has been designated for special honor; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend The
Honorable Betty Staton upon the occasion of her designation as recipient
of the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Neighborhood Technical
Assistance Clinic to be celebrated at its 13th Annual Gala, A Salute to
New York City's Nonprofits and the Neighborhoods They Serve, on Tuesday,
June 9, 2020, at Giando on the Water, Brooklyn, New York; and

WHEREAS, The Neighborhood Technical Assistance Clinic (NTAC) is a
strategic partner and advisor to philanthropists, foundations,
government and political entities, public institutions, grassroots
nonprofit organizations, and faith-based institutions wishing to improve
their programs and organizational effectiveness in addressing the needs
of low-income and service-starved communities; and

WHEREAS, Betty Staton co-founded the first African-American female
law firm in the State of New York in 1987; a former judge, she currently
serves as President of Brooklyn Legal Services; and

WHEREAS, This extraordinary woman was 41-years old when she earned a
full scholarship into New York University's Law School where she founded
the Black Latino Asian Pacific Alumni Association which is still in
existence today; and

WHEREAS, Betty Staton began her illustrious career in legal services
at the Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation where she eventually
went on to become the Deputy Director and Director of outreach and
education; and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Betty Staton has displayed
throughout her life; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend The Honorable Betty Staton upon the occasion of her designation

as recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Neighborhood
Technical Assistance Clinic; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to The Honorable Betty Staton.
