COMMENDING Dorcas Medical Mission, Inc. upon the
occasion of celebrating its 20th Anniversary,
October 3-4, 2020
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
organizations and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare
of the community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Dorcas Medical Mission, Inc. upon the occasion of celebrating
its 20th Anniversary with both a Grand Gala Banquet on Saturday, October
3, 2020, at the Tropical Paradise Ballroom and Catering, Brooklyn, New
York, and a Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, October 4, 2020, at The
Rugby Deliverance Tabernacle, Brooklyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, Under the able leadership of its President, Reverend Lorna
J. Mullings, Dorcas Medical Mission, Inc. (DMM), is located in
Brooklyn, New York; this faith-based medical mission organization
conducts bi-annual missions to Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, and Central,
North, and South America; and
WHEREAS, DMM programs provide free health care, including surgical,
medical, dental, podiatry, and vision care to the underserved in the
various countries it serves; and
WHEREAS, Since its inception, DMM has conducted over 50 medical
missions and provided health care services to more than 300,000
individuals; and
WHEREAS, In addition to the services mentioned above, DMM has
provided the following supplemental services; in the Caribbean:
Haiti-rebuilt homes after October 2010 Haiti Earthquake and Hurricane
Matthew in October 2016, and distributed food, clothing, and shoes to
residents in the town of Leogane and surrounding areas; Jamaica, Saint
Vincent, Saint Lucia, Grenada-provided food, clothing and shoes; and in
the Dominican Republic-provided food, clothing, and shoes to the
residents of Bateyes; and
WHEREAS, In South America: Guyana-distributed food, clothing, and
shoes; in one instance, DMM donated over 4,000 pairs of shoes to primary
school students; and
WHEREAS, In North America: New Orleans-provided medical and dental
services after Hurricane Katrina, in August of 2005; and
WHEREAS, In Africa: Ghana-built a well to provide clean drinking
water; constructed a state-of-the-art medical center; and provided
scholarships to students to fund primary through professional training;
Ethiopia, Nigeria, and Zambia-provided food, clothing, and shoes; and
South Africa-provided food, clothing, shoes, and homes for HIV patients;
and
WHEREAS, In Asia: Philippines-provided food, clothing, shoes, and
scholarships, as well as acquired and renovated a house of worship and a
home for street children; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their global communities and have
shown a long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have
earned the recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Dorcas Medical Mission, Inc. upon the occasion of celebrating
its 20th Anniversary, October 3-4, 2020; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Reverend Lorna J. Mullings, President, Dorcas Medical
Mission, Inc.
