HONORING James Shaw upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the 2019 Senior Citizen
of the Year Award by the St. Lawrence County Office
for the Aging

WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge
to the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their
past contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and
valuable asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
James Shaw upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the 2019
Senior Citizen of the Year Award by the St. Lawrence County Office for
the Aging; and

WHEREAS, James Shaw has lived in New York State his whole life; he
and his wife moved to Heuvelton, New York, in 1977, and today they are
the proud parents of four children, and the loving grandparents of eight
grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, James Shaw attended SUNY Canton; he also served in the
United States Army Reserves from 1970-1976; and

WHEREAS, For 20 years, James Shaw worked on a dairy farm before
being employed by the Town of Oswegatchie for more than two decades; and

WHEREAS, James Shaw has been a volunteer for 32 years, participating
in numerous groups to help the people of his community; he has been an
active member of the Lions Club since 1988; participates in CHMC
Diabetes Education classes; and has been a trained civilian Diabetes
Educator for almost five years; and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, James Shaw has been a volunteer for the
Salvation Army, served as a life style coach, and has been an active
member of the First Baptist Church for several decades; and

WHEREAS, James Shaw, who believes it makes you feel good to give
back to your community, has had a positive impact on his neighbors
through his lifetime of dedication to service; his presence has brought
a positive experience to the North Country, and he is an exceptional
example of what it truly means to be a member of a community; and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which James Shaw has displayed
throughout his life; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor James Shaw upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the 2019 Senior Citizen of the Year Award by the St. Lawrence County
Office for the Aging; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to James Shaw.
