MOURNING the death of Sam Hill, distinguished
citizen and devoted member of his community
WHEREAS, There are certain outstanding members of our community who,
through their selfless commitment and dedication, have served to better
the quality of life in our community and have had a measurable positive
impact on the lives of its residents; Sam Hill was one such individual;
and
WHEREAS, It is with great sorrow and deep regret that this
Legislative Body records the passing of Sam Hill, noting the
significance of his purposeful life and accomplishments; and
WHEREAS, Sam Hill of Harlem, New York, died at the age of 71, due to
complications related to the novel coronavirus; and
WHEREAS, Affectionately known as the Mayor of Harlem, Sam Hill was a
native of South Carolina; and
WHEREAS, After valiantly serving his country as a member of the
United States Marine Corps, Sam Hill went on to a long and illustrious
career as a Mason; and
WHEREAS, This extraordinary man truly distinguished himself in his
profession and by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to
the welfare of his community; and
WHEREAS, Sam Hill's commitment to excellence, and his spirit of
humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including
charitable and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to his beloved
Harlem, New York, Sam Hill was the proud recipient of numerous awards
and accolades from New York State, New York City, and his local
community; and
WHEREAS, One of his greatest joys in life was doting on his wife,
Rosie, a sweet testimony to their many years of marital bliss,
commitment and true love; and
WHEREAS, Sam Hill, who displayed many exceptional talents and unique
qualities, lived an immensely beautiful life built on compassion,
kindness, and respect for others; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Sam Hill leaves behind a legacy which will long endure the
passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all he served
and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Sam Hill, distinguished citizen and devoted member of
his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Sam Hill.
