MOURNING the death of Nation of Islam Regional
Minister Abdul-Hafeez Muhammad, distinguished
citizen and devoted member of his community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and

WHEREAS, New York-based Minister Abdul-Hafeez Muhammad, formerly
known as Minister Kevin Muhammad, died on Saturday, April 11, 2020, at
the age of 56, due to complications related to the novel coronavirus;
and

WHEREAS, Born Kevin Ross in 1963, Minister Abdul-Hafeez Muhammad's
tenure with the Nation of Islam spanned four decades, with his
beginnings starting in the Crown Heights, Brooklyn Muhammad Mosque No. 7
in the early 1980s, which was adjacent to his Brownsville, Brooklyn
neighborhood; and

WHEREAS, As Kevin X, he quickly rose through the ranks of the FOI
and joined the Ministry of the Nation in 1985; and

WHEREAS, Known as a Man's Man and a Brother's Brother, Minister
Abdul-Hafeez Muhammad was a man of the community, a mentor, a man of
faith, a supporter of the oppressed and disenfranchised, and a
practicing counselor to the people; and

WHEREAS, Minister Abdul-Hafeez Muhammad distinguished himself in his
profession and by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to
the welfare of his community; and

WHEREAS, Minister Abdul-Hafeez Muhammad's commitment to excellence,
and his spirit of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise,
including charitable and civic endeavors; and

WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Minister Abdul-Hafeez Muhammad leaves behind a legacy which
will long endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting
memory to all he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Nation of Islam Regional Minister Abdul-Hafeez
Muhammad, a well-respected national representative; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Minister Abdul-Hafeez Muhammad.
