Senate Resolution No. 3148

MOURNING the death of Dr. Roy A. Hastick Sr.,
astute businessman, distinguished citizen and
devoted member of his community

WHEREAS, It is with feelings of deepest regret that this Legislative
Body records the passing of Dr. Roy A. Hastick Sr., a preeminent citizen
whose distinguished public service and caring commitment will long serve
as standards to which others might aspire; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Roy A. Hastick Sr. of Brooklyn, New York, died on
Thursday, April 9, 2020, at the age of 69; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Roy A. Hastick Sr. was truly a powerful force in the
Brooklyn business community, promoting entrepreneurship and minority
owned businesses; and

WHEREAS, In 1972, Dr. Roy A. Hastick Sr. immigrated to the United
States and settled in Brooklyn, New York where he worked as an
entrepreneur and newspaper publisher before founding the Caribbean
American Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CACCI) in 1985 with 10
members to help startups and small businesses; and

WHEREAS, Under the luminous leadership of CEO and President Dr. Roy
A. Hastick Sr., the chamber has grown to a membership of more than
1,800 businesses and has accomplished numerous goals such as the
development of the Flatbush Caton Market and the construction of 255
affordable housing units and the CACCI headquarters/ Caribbean Trade and
Cultural Centre in Brooklyn; and

WHEREAS, For his steadfast and unremitting commitment to his
heritage and his community, Dr. Roy A. Hastick Sr. was the recipient of
numerous awards and accolades including the 2018 Distinguished Caribbean
Citizen Award by the CTO; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Roy A. Hastick Sr., fondly known as Uncle Roy to many,
will always be remembered as a community leader, mentor and friend who
adamantly fought to better the borough of Brooklyn and New York City as
a whole; for his fierce determination, engaging personality and
leadership style, he was the recipient of numerous awards and accolades;
and

WHEREAS, Dr. Roy A. Hastick Sr. is survived by his loving wife, Eda
Hastick, and his cherished children, as well as numerous friends and
colleagues; and

WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Dr. Roy A. Hastick Sr. leaves behind a legacy which will
long endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory
to all he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Dr. Roy A. Hastick Sr., astute businessman,

distinguished citizen and devoted member of his community; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Dr. Roy A. Hastick Sr.
