MOURNING the death of Vincent L. Tomlinson, family
man, distinguished citizen and dedicated member of
his community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework served to enhance the
quality of life in their communities and the great State of New York;
and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved to mourn the death of
Vincent L. Tomlinson, who died on Wednesday, April 8, 2020, at the age
of 94; and

WHEREAS, Vincent Leonard Tomlinson was born on March 13, 1926, in
Thornton, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, West Indies, to the late Stephen Uriah
Tomlinson and Adelle Princella Rowe; and

WHEREAS, Vincent L. Tomlinson trained in Kingston, Jamaica, West
Indies as a Master Mechanic and started his own business in foreign car
repair; on September 5, 1951, he married the former Verna Veronica Smith
and together, they immigrated to Brooklyn, New York, in 1963; and

WHEREAS, For many years, Vincent L. Tomlinson worked with the
Iranian, and later the Jamaican Embassy at the United Nations, and
later, became certified as an Automotive Engineer and worked for several
large automotive corporations, until he started his own auto repair shop
in Orlando, Florida; and

WHEREAS, Throughout his long career, Vincent L. Tomlinson truly
distinguished himself in his profession and by his sincere dedication
and substantial contribution to the welfare of his community; for over
25 years, he served as an usher/greeter at Faith Assembly of God; and

WHEREAS, Upon his retirement in 2001, Vincent L. Tomlinson enjoyed
tending to his extensive garden of fruits and vegetables, which he was
proud to share, and loved to spend time with his beloved family,
especially telling them stories about living on the beautiful island of
Jamaica; and

WHEREAS, Predeceased by his son, Horace Anthony Tomlinson (Donnie)
and younger brother Neville Tomlinson (Busha), Vincent L. Tomlinson is
survived by his wife Verna, who he passionately called "V"; two
daughters, Charmaine (Charm) and Joan (Miss Jo); one son, Stephen
(Stevie); one son-in-law, Kevin; one daughter-in-law, Kumiko; six
grandchildren, Eleith, Nathaniel, Desiree, Kota Jeremiah, Zion Yuze, and
Anela Inori; four brothers and sisters, Desmae, Una (Kitty), Edris, and
Elaine (Pansy); and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews,
and cousins, as well as numerous friends and customers; and

WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Vincent L. Tomlinson leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it


RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Vincent L. Tomlinson, family man, distinguished
citizen and dedicated member of his community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Vincent L. Tomlinson.
