COMMENDING Coach Jay Green upon the occasion of
his retirement after 13 years of distinguished
service to the SUNY Potsdam Women's Hockey Team

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to acknowledge
the distinguished educators and athletic coaches who serve the youth of
this great Empire State and who have distinguished themselves and their
schools through outstanding commitment and exemplary athletic
achievements; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Coach Jay Green upon the occasion of his retirement after 13
years of distinguished service to the SUNY Potsdam Women's Hockey Team;
and

WHEREAS, A congenial leader and seasoned tactician, Jay Green's
positive demeanor, selfless commitment and caring concern have
contributed to his unparalleled success as a coach and mentor, earning
him the just respect and admiration of the school, his peers and the
athletes he has so ably coached; and

WHEREAS, Jay Green began his long and distinguished career with SUNY
Potsdam in 1999, when he accepted the position of Facilities Director at
Maxcy Hall; upon realizing the only women's hockey team in the area was
at St. Lawrence University, he decided to start a program at SUNY
Potsdam; and

WHEREAS, In 2007, Coach Jay Green established the women's hockey
team and has been an important and vital aspect of the success and
growth of the team ever since; he will officially retire as leader and
mentor of the Lady Bears on August 31, 2020; and

WHEREAS, After a year playing at the club level in 2007-2008, SUNY
Potsdam began as a full varsity program in 2008-2009 and went 4-17-2; a
few years later, the Lady Bears enjoyed a 12-10-3 season; and

WHEREAS, Even though Coach Jay Green is stepping down from
collegiate play, he will continue to coach elementary school soccer and
softball teams in Parishville, New York; and

WHEREAS, Coach Jay Green will always be remembered for his role in
making SUNY Potsdam a proud women's hockey community; he was a friend to
everyone and always stayed true to his beliefs, making his athletes his
number one priority; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to now record its
recognition and appreciation in honoring an outstanding educational
leader whose dedication and achievements have been instrumental in
developing character and sportsmanship in youth, exemplifying the ideals
and values cherished by this great State and Nation; now, therefore, be
it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Coach Jay Green upon the occasion of his retirement after 13
years of distinguished service to the SUNY Potsdam Women's Hockey Team,
and to wish him well in all his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Coach Jay Green.
