HONORING Linda Parker upon the occasion of her
designation for special recognition by the New York
State Office for the Aging
WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge
to the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their
past contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and
valuable asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Linda Parker
upon the occasion of her designation for special recognition by the New
York State Office for the Aging at its Annual Older New Yorkers' Day
Celebration; and
WHEREAS, Each May, the New York State Office for the Aging pauses to
acknowledge the outstanding contributions made by older citizens during
National Older Americans Month; and
WHEREAS, Members of older generations have helped build and shape
our Nation to be the greatest in the world; they have defended our
freedoms and values to ensure that those who come after them may have
better lives; nowhere in the Nation is the legacy of their efforts more
visible and more a part of the lives of all citizens than here in the
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Linda Parker has given tirelessly of her time and energies
to helping the elderly and those less fortunate in her community for
more than 40 years; and
WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of New York State, 73-year-old Linda
Parker grew up in Boonville and currently resides in Prospect; while in
her 50's, this extraordinary woman obtained her Bachelor of Science
degree in Gerontology from Utica College; and
WHEREAS, Upon the completion of her studies, Linda Parker began her
illustrious career as a Care Manager for the Neighborhood Center in
Utica, where she has worked for the past 16 years; in this capacity, she
specializes in services for the elderly and assisting them in remaining
independent within their communities; and
WHEREAS, An active member of Boonville Alliance Church, Linda Parker
volunteers her time cleaning and setting up space for regular church
meetings, as well as in its Rummage Room, a second-hand clothing area
for people in need; and
WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to the history
of her community, Linda Parker has spent the past seven years, during
the months of May and September, as a volunteer guide for the Town of
Trenton, giving walking tours, and explaining the history of Trenton as
well as the area of the historic Trenton Falls; and
WHEREAS, Linda Parker has volunteered for more than three decades at
the Prospect Library, where she can always be found greeting and
assisting patrons, and keeping record of borrowed library books; she is
also a past trustee member of the Prospect Town Library; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her three sons and six
grandchildren, as well as her special niece, all of whom feel privileged
to be a part of her life and rejoice in her many achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Linda Parker has displayed
throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, Linda Parker, a very active and industrious woman, has
inspired and enriched the lives of those she serves through her
volunteerism, generously sharing the wisdom gained over years of
experiencing life to its fullest; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Linda Parker upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by the New York State Office for the Aging; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Linda Parker.
