COMMEMORATING the 60th Anniversary of the Korean
American Association of Greater New York

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body, in keeping with
its time-honored traditions, to recognize and pay tribute to those
organizations which foster ethnic pride and enhance the profile of
cultural diversity which strengthens the fabric of the communities of
New York State; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commemorate the
60th Anniversary of the Korean American Association of Greater New York;
and

WHEREAS, Founded in 1960, the Korean American Association of Greater
New York (KAAGNY) has long advocated for the welfare and protection of
the rights and interests of over half a million diasporic Koreans living
in the Greater New York area; and

WHEREAS, A non-profit organization, KAAGNY has served to connect
Korean Americans to one another as well as to the American mainstream;
and

WHEREAS, KAAGNY also acts as an umbrella organization to 500 other
Korean American organizations which provide Korean Americans of all ages
and economic backgrounds with assistance and services in numerous areas,
including education, culture, vocational help, and community outreach;
and

WHEREAS, This vital organization continues to exchange ideas and
establish synergistic relationships with other regional and ethnic
organizations through various community activities; and

WHEREAS, Remaining true to its mission, KAAGNY also attempts to
foster a strong sense of Korean American identity and consciousness for
future generations, and nurtures the untapped potential of individual
Korean Americans to promote the development of an ever-growing and
productive immigrant community in the United States; and

WHEREAS, The KAAGNY building is located in Chelsea, Manhattan, and
was acquired in 1983 through the generous contributions from the Korean
American community during the term of the 17th KAAGNY President Ikjo
Kang; and

WHEREAS, The success of the KAAGNY is in direct correlation to the
efforts of its members, whose involvement is, and always has been,
characterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and
an uncompromising standard of excellence in all endeavors on behalf of
the organization and the community it serves; and

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to honor those
organizations and individuals of significance who add strength, vigor,
and inspiration to the ethnic diversity and quality of life in the
communities of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it


RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the Korean American Association of
Greater New York; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Korean American Association of Greater New York.
