Senate Resolution No. 3215

COMMENDING the State University of New York at
Potsdam upon the occasion of celebrating its 200th
Commencement on May 23, 2020

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those exemplary institutions of higher education within the
State of New York for their enduring commitment to the pursuit of
academic excellence; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend the State University of New York (SUNY) at Potsdam upon the
occasion of its 200th Commencement which was celebrated with a virtual
ceremony on Saturday, May 23, 2020; in the future, the college plans to
host an in-person event; and

WHEREAS, The video, recognizing nearly 900 graduates, a mix of
bachelor's and master's degree recipients, featured remarks from SUNY
Potsdam President Dr. Kristin G. Esterberg, Student Government
Association President and graduate Kalis Nunes and Provost Bette S.
Bergeron; and

WHEREAS, Since its founding in 1816, SUNY Potsdam has strived to
prepare students to act as engaged global citizens and to lead lives
enriched by critical thought, creativity and discovery; and

WHEREAS, As an inclusive scholarly community, rooted in its historic
role in providing exemplary teacher and music education and its
leadership in the fine and performing arts, it is committed to the
liberal arts and sciences as an academic foundation for all students;
and

WHEREAS, With an abiding sense of responsibility to its region and
to the world beyond, SUNY Potsdam fosters an appreciation of and respect
for the variety of human experience; and

WHEREAS, Today, under the visionary guidance of President Dr.
Kristin G. Esterberg, SUNY Potsdam stands proud and prominent, always
looking to the future and the needs of those it serves; now, therefore,
be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the State University of New York at Potsdam upon the occasion of
celebrating its 200th commencement on May 23, 2020; and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the State University of New York at Potsdam.
