MOURNING the death of The Honorable Dominick
Viscardi, dedicated public servant and devoted
member of his community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to mourn publicly
the death of prominent citizens of the State of New York whose lifework
and civic endeavor served to enhance the reputation of the State; and

WHEREAS, It is with feelings of deepest regret that this Legislative
Body records the passing of The Honorable Dominick Viscardi, noting the
significance of the loss of a man whose altruistic spirit will be
greatly missed; and

WHEREAS, Judge Dominick Viscardi of Ticonderoga, New York, died
peacefully on Monday, June 15, 2020, at the age of 96; and

WHEREAS, Dominick Viscardi was born on March 23, 1924, to Joseph and
Epiphania Viscardi in New York City; he went on to marry the love of his
life, Rose Marie, and together they raised a beautiful family; and

WHEREAS, In 1946, Dominick Viscardi graduated from Lafayette College
where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree; he furthered his
education by attaining his Juris Doctorate degree in 1948, at Cornell
Law School; he was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1950; and

WHEREAS, Following his discharge from the United States Army where
he admirably served on the Signal Corps legal staff, Dominick Viscardi
began his legal career in Ticonderoga, New York; he went on to conduct
an active trial practice for 28 years before being elected to the
Supreme Court; and

WHEREAS, Judge Dominick Viscardi was first elected to the Supreme
Court in 1978, and was re-elected in 1992, serving until 2000; during
his tenure as a Supreme Court Justice, he served in each of the counties
of the 4th Judicial District as well as 28 terms in New York City; and

WHEREAS, Over a long and preeminent career, Judge Dominick Viscardi
distinguished himself and his profession, serving tirelessly in the
administration of the law, while diligently guarding over the rights of
the citizens it serves; and

WHEREAS, Judge Dominick Viscardi was a communicant and a trustee of
St. Mary's Catholic Church of Ticonderoga, and was awarded the St.
Mary's Centennial Award in 1992; and

WHEREAS, A man of sincere dedication, Judge Dominick Viscardi was a
past Grand Knight, and most senior member of the Knights of Columbus
Council 333, having been a member for 70 years; he is a past President
of the Essex County Bar and the Federation of Bar Associations, 4th
Judicial District; and

WHEREAS, Predeceased by his oldest son, Dominick, Judge Dominick
Viscardi is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Rose Marie Coveney

Viscardi; his beloved children Michael, Mary Kathleen, John, Rose Marie,
Theresa and Patrick; his nine grandchildren, James, Margaret, Joseph,
Theresa, Benjamin, Kathleen, Erin, Amanda and Dominick; and his five
great-grandchildren Aliza, Asher, Julia, Grace and Evelyn; and

WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Judge Dominick Viscardi leaves behind a legacy which will
long endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory
to all he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of The Honorable Dominick Viscardi, dedicated public
servant and devoted member of his community, and to express its deepest
condolences to his family; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of The Honorable Dominick Viscardi.
