MOURNING the death of Paul Friedrichsen, renowned
dairy farmer, distinguished citizen and devoted
member of his community

WHEREAS, It is with feelings of deepest regret that this Legislative
Body records the passing of Paul Friedrichsen, an extraordinary man of
indomitable faith and dedication whose purposeful life will long serve
as a standard to which others might aspire; and

WHEREAS, Paul Friedrichsen of Nichols, New York, died on Wednesday,
November 7, 2018, at the age of 75; and

WHEREAS, Born on November 29, 1942, in New York, New York, to the
late Christian Detlef and Helen (Hansen) Friedrichsen, Paul Friedrichsen
moved to Nichols at a young age, and the family farm was established; he
went on to graduate from Tioga Central High School in 1960; and

WHEREAS, During this time, when the farm chores were complete, Paul
Friedrichsen escaped to the Sayre Roller Skating Rink, where he met a
beautiful young woman named Cindy with whom he would skate several times
a week; and

WHEREAS, Paul and Lucinda "Cindy" Friedrichsen were united in
marriage on July 3, 1965, at the Athens Presbyterian Church and together
they shared 53 years of happiness; and

WHEREAS, Dedicated to serving others, Paul Friedrichsen joined the
Nichols Village Fire Department and in 1968, was instrumental in
establishing the Nichols Joint Fire District; and

WHEREAS, Throughout his illustrious tenure with the Nichols Fire
Department, Paul Friedrichsen served as Chief and Assistant Chief; he
also gave more than 50 years of his time and energies to the
department's Board of Commissioners; and

WHEREAS, In 2013, Paul Friedrichsen was recognized by his fellow
firefighters of the Nichols Fire Department for 50 years of dedicated
service; and

WHEREAS, Active in his community, Paul Friedrichsen was a member of
the New York State Fire Chief's Association; he enjoyed attending farm
auctions and visiting with his friends at Gail's Restaurant; and

WHEREAS, Predeceased by his sister Helen, his parents, and his
brothers-in-law Carl and Ronald, Paul Friedrichsen is survived by his
loving wife, Cindy; his children, Michael (Tracey), Brian (Tisha) and
Karen (Erdem); his grandchildren, Christianna, Nicholas, Lucas, Tyrus,
Madison, Max, Selin, Madison and Taylor; his sister Marien; a
sister-in-law, Margaret (John); and brother-in-law John (Chris); as well
as several nieces, nephews, and many special friends; and

WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Paul Friedrichsen leaves behind a legacy which will long

endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Paul Friedrichsen, renowned dairy farmer,
distinguished citizen and devoted member of his community; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Paul Friedrichsen.
