COMMENDING Fran Sexton-Conway, RN upon the
occasion of her designation for special recognition
by the First Presbyterian Church in Jamaica

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the community
and its citizenry; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Fran Sexton-Conway, RN upon the occasion of her designation for
special recognition by the First Presbyterian Church in Jamaica, to be
celebrated at its 15th Annual Prostate Cancer Screening & Health Fair on
Saturday, March 30, 2019; and

WHEREAS, Sponsored by the First Presbyterian Church in Jamaica, this
free, educational and interactive event provides basic preventive
medicine and medical screening to people in the community; men and women
over the age of 35 have the opportunity to be screened for prostate
cancer, tested for HIV and hearing loss, and attend nutritional
counseling sessions; individuals can also have their blood pressure and
cholesterol levels checked, and diabetics, their blood sugar levels; and

WHEREAS, Since its inception, Fran Sexton-Conway has graciously
donated her time and energy to ensuring this event is a great success
year after year; and

WHEREAS, Born and raised in Jackson Heights, Queens, Fran
Sexton-Conway attended both Hunter College and Flushing Hospital School
of Nursing; after graduation, she started working as a Registered Nurse
for New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center in 1982; and

WHEREAS, Fran Sexton-Conway is a Dale Carnegie Graduate Assistant,
and received a Registered Vascular Technologist Certificate in 1995; two
years later, she became the first New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell
Medical Center staff member to obtain accreditation for its Vascular Lab
in 1997; and

WHEREAS, From 2002-2016, Fran Sexton-Conway worked in the
Urology/Oncology Department with Dr. Douglas Scherr; in 2015, she
created and managed the Complementary Care Center which provides
services for the Urology and Breast Departments, and the Dialysis Unit;
and

WHEREAS, When she is not working or helping someone, Fran
Sexton-Conway enjoys traveling and music, and relaxes and stays in shape
through yoga; in 2005, she became a Registered Yoga Teacher, a Yoga
Therapist in 2017, and certified in Yoga Therapy for Osteoporosis in
2018; and

WHEREAS, With her throughout has been her husband, Frank, who has
shown her love and support and rejoices in her many achievements; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Fran Sexton-Conway, RN upon the occasion of her designation for
special recognition by the First Presbyterian Church in Jamaica; and be
it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Fran Sexton-Conway, RN.
