MOURNING the death of David C. Law, former Town of
Norwich Supervisor, 57 year member of the Maydole
Hose Company and distinguished citizen

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and

WHEREAS, David C. Law, a lifelong resident of Norwich, New York,
died on Monday, February 11, 2019, at the age of 76; and

WHEREAS, Born on March 23, 1942, in Norwich, David C. Law was the
son of Carl and Loretta (Frink) Law; he attended the Norwich schools and
graduated with the Class of 1961; and

WHEREAS, David C. Law distinguished himself in his profession and by
his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the welfare of
his community; he was employed with Chenango Union Printing before
working for Chenango County as the county's printer for 27 years; he
retired from this position and was a records management officer for the
county until the department closed; and

WHEREAS, For 12 years, David C. Law was the Supervisor for the Town
of Norwich; he was also the Fair Director of the Chenango County
Agricultural Society; some of his accomplishments during this time
include events at the Chenango County Fair such as the entertainment
tent, senior citizens day, and the fireman's parade; and

WHEREAS, David C. Law's commitment to excellence, and his spirit of
humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including
charitable and civic endeavors; extremely active in his community and
Chenango County, he was a coach for boy's Pee-Wee Basketball at the YMCA
and for Valley Heights Christian Academy; and

WHEREAS, Moreover, David C. Law served as President of the Norwich
High School Band Parents where his responsibilities included fund
raising, chaperoning and traveling to support band trips; he was also
instrumental in starting the Fall Festival of Bands; and

WHEREAS, David C. Law was a member of the school board for the City
of Norwich Schools as well as for Valley Heights Christian Academy; his
mission was to provide the best education for the students throughout
the community; and

WHEREAS, Over the years, David C. Law loved playing Santa Clause in
the Norwich area, and arranging for many children to have Saturday
morning "Breakfast with Santa"; additionally as Santa, he did many
private parties including the Chenango County Museum, the Chenango
Valley Home and the Norwich Evening Sun party at Fred's Inn; and

WHEREAS, David C. Law loved parades; he worked with others to form
the annual Parade of Lights; in July of 1976, he chaired the

Bicentennial Parade; furthermore, he played the part of Pumpy the Clown
aboard the Norwich Fire Department Steamer, marching in all of their
parades; the one he enjoyed the most was the New York City Macy's
Parade, where he chaperoned the Norwich High School Band; and

WHEREAS, David C. Law joined the Calvary Baptist Church at the age
of 14, so he could play softball; he was a pitcher, a catcher and an
umpire, and played into his 50s; active in his church, he served as
deacon, trustee, youth leader, and a Sunday school teacher; and

WHEREAS, In the fall of 1961, David C. Law joined the Maydole Hose
Company of the Norwich Fire Department; in his later years, he served as
a local fire police; his service as a fireman spanned almost six
decades; and

WHEREAS, On May 4, 1963, David C. Law married the former Virginia
Anderson, who survives him; he is also survived by his children, Michael
D. (Jill) Law, Anne-Marie (Mark) St. John, and Mark C. Law (David); his
grandchildren, Jonathan, Joshua, Tara, Allison, McKay, Kristen, Clint
(Grant), and Anderson; and his Aunt Betty; as well as several nieces,
nephews and cousins; he was predeceased by two grandchildren, Spencer
and Madison; and

WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, David C. Law leaves behind a legacy which will long endure
the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all he
served and befriended; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of David C. Law, former Town of Norwich Supervisor, 57
year member of the Maydole Hose Company and distinguished citizen; and
be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of David C. Law.
