COMMEMORATING the 100th Anniversary of the Girl
Scouts of Nassau County, Inc. on March 14, 2019
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize those
illustrious organizations that have had a significant impact on our
communities for the last century, and to honor our youth, whose
character and achievements exemplify the ideals and values cherished by
this great State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Girl Scouts of Nassau County,
Inc. to be celebrated with a Gala on Thursday, March 14, 2019, at The
Garden City Hotel, Garden City, New York; and
WHEREAS, Girl Scouts of America was founded by Juliette Gordon
"Daisy" Low on March 12, 1912, in Savannah, Georgia; and
WHEREAS, Since 1918, girls and adults in Nassau County have come
together to make friends and serve the community and the world; the
values found in the Girl Scout Promise and Law serve as a life-long road
map to guide girls' behavior and attitudes; and
WHEREAS, Through activities in science and technology, business and
financial literacy, and outdoor and environmental awareness, Girl
Scouting provides girls with opportunities for fun and friendship while
fostering the development of leadership skills and self-esteem; and
WHEREAS, Girl Scouts of Nassau County, Inc. serves girls and adults
in Nassau County, New York, a suburban community of New York City;
programs and girl-led community service opportunities engage girls in
discovering themselves, connecting with others, and taking action to
make the world a better place; and
WHEREAS, Girls also build leadership skills by earning their Bronze,
Silver, and Gold Awards; the Gold Award is the highest achievement In
Girl Scouting, a shining example of what a girl can achieve while
working toward her high school graduation; and
WHEREAS, Under the able leadership of Chief Executive Officer
Randell M. Bynum, Girl Scouts of Nassau County works with more than 250
community partners in schools, houses of worship and businesses,
teaching girls to Discover, Connect and Take Action; and
WHEREAS, As the Girl Scout movement enters its second Century, it
reaffirms its mission to build girls of courage, confidence and
character who make the world a better place; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those organizations of high purpose and worthy
accomplishment whose endeavors have faithfully served the welfare of the
youth of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Girl Scouts of Nassau County,
Inc. on March 14, 2019; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Randell M. Bynum, Chief Executive Officer, Girl Scouts of
Nassau County, Inc.
