COMMENDING Robin Christenson upon the occasion of
her retirement after three years of distinguished
service as Executive Director of Capital Region
Sponsor-A-Scholar

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor those outstanding citizens of this great Empire State who have
devoted themselves to faithfully serving the best interests of their
community and the needs of its residents; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Robin Christenson upon the occasion of her retirement after
three years of distinguished service as Executive Director of Capital
Region Sponsor-A-Scholar; she will officially retire in November of
2018; and

WHEREAS, Founded in 1996 by business leaders Charles Buchanan and
William Barnet, Capital Region Sponsor-A-Scholar was established as a
response to concerns regarding opportunities for local young people to
develop the skills and experience to meet the growing need for an
educated workforce in the region; and

WHEREAS, Initially modeled after a successful program in
Philadelphia, Capital Region Sponsor-A-Scholar developed a one-to-one
student support program that identified promising, underserved young
people with ambitions to succeed in high school and college; and

WHEREAS, As of 2018, Capital Region Sponsor-A-Scholar has supported
more than 248 local students as they earned their college degrees; and

WHEREAS, Robin Christenson has resided in the Albany area for 40
years and, in that time, she has worked almost exclusively in
not-for-profit management and fundraising for a host of organizations;
and

WHEREAS, As Executive Director of Capital Region Sponsor-A-Scholar,
Robin Christenson was motivated in her work by a deep commitment to
young people, education, and her community; she truly enjoyed witnessing
how determined and hardworking the Scholars were and to see first-hand
the many ways that mentors, donors, community partners and families
support these young students; and

WHEREAS, Robin Christenson served with intelligence and caring
dedication, continuously striving to effectively fulfill the duties of
her position; and

WHEREAS, Sincerely loved and greatly respected by all those with
whom she worked, Robin Christenson will be remembered for her honesty,
integrity, keen sense of duty and ability to show a unique grasp of
human problems in her official acts; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Robin Christenson upon the occasion of her retirement, and to
wish her well in all her future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Robin Christenson.
