HONORING Alex Derrick-Douglas upon the occasion of
her designation for special recognition by the
Dinner Table Doc at its Eighteen Under 18 Awards
Ceremony on March 9, 2019

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor the youth
of today, and leaders of tomorrow, whose character and achievements best
exemplify the ideals and values cherished by this great State and
Nation; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Alex Derrick-Douglas upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by the Dinner Table Doc at its Eighteen Under 18 Awards
Ceremony on March 9, 2019, at Weeksville Heritage Center, Brooklyn, New
York; and

WHEREAS, The Dinner Table Doc's Eighteen Under 18 Awards Ceremony
was created to shine a light on students who are creating change in
their communities; unlike other awards ceremonies, the conversation will
lead a call to action for young women in the audience to participate by
pitching their own community centered initiatives; and

WHEREAS, A senior at Cobble Hill High School of American Studies,
18-year old Alex Derrick-Douglas is a truly remarkable student; and

WHEREAS, Through hard work and determination, as well as through the
support of her family, church, and community, Alex Derrick-Douglas has
overcome much adversity to achieve her goals; and

WHEREAS, This extraordinary young woman plans to be the first in her
family to earn a four year college degree; and

WHEREAS, Alex Derrick-Douglas has distinguished herself as a young
woman of superlative ability, establishing a high standard of excellence
and purposefulness of life rarely achieved in youthful years; and

WHEREAS, With her sense of civic duty and her commitment to others,
Alex Derrick-Douglas represents the best development of the potential
which is inherent in our most precious resource, our youth; now,
therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Alex Derrick-Douglas upon the occasion of her designation for
special recognition by the Dinner Table Doc at its Eighteen Under 18
Awards Ceremony on March 9, 2019; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Alex Derrick-Douglas.
