HONORING Shianna Emokpae upon the occasion of her
designation for special recognition by the Dinner
Table Doc at its Eighteen Under 18 Awards Ceremony
on March 9, 2019

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor the youth
of today, and leaders of tomorrow, whose character and achievements best
exemplify the ideals and values cherished by this great State and
Nation; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Shianna Emokpae upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by the Dinner Table Doc at its Eighteen Under 18 Awards
Ceremony on March 9, 2019, at Weeksville Heritage Center, Brooklyn, New
York; and

WHEREAS, The Dinner Table Doc's Eighteen Under 18 Awards Ceremony
was created to shine a light on students who are creating change in
their communities; unlike other awards ceremonies, the conversation will
lead a call to action for young women in the audience to participate by
pitching their own community centered initiatives; and

WHEREAS, A senior in high school, Shianna Emokpae is a truly
remarkable student, receiving Honor Roll accolades every marking period,
earning perfect attendance, and succeeding in four AP classes, all while
co-chairing the cheerleading squad and leading the largest after school
dance club; and

WHEREAS, In addition, she was named the Class of 2019 Homecoming
Queen; and

WHEREAS, Shianna Emokpae is also an avid leader in the Lioness Den
Girls Empowerment Group where she has taken on her own independent
endeavors mentoring at-risk young girls; and

WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to community
service, Shianna Emokpae has led the Restorative Justice mission at her
school to disrupt the School to Prison pipeline plaguing most inner city
schools; and

WHEREAS, Shianna Emokpae has distinguished herself as a young woman
of superlative ability, establishing a high standard of excellence and
purposefulness of life rarely achieved in youthful years; and

WHEREAS, With her sense of civic duty and her commitment to others,
Shianna Emokpae represents the best development of the potential which
is inherent in our most precious resource, our youth; now, therefore, be
it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Shianna Emokpae upon the occasion of her designation for special

recognition by the Dinner Table Doc at its Eighteen Under 18 Awards
Ceremony on March 9, 2019; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Shianna Emokpae.
