COMMENDING The Dinner Table Doc upon the occasion
of hosting its Eighteen Under 18 Awards Ceremony on
March 9, 2019

WHEREAS, The State of New York takes great pride in acknowledging
outstanding organizations which distinguish themselves in serving the
community and its residents, and which warrant special recognition; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend The Dinner
Table Doc upon the occasion of hosting its Eighteen Under 18 Awards
Ceremony on Saturday, March 9, 2019, at Weeksville Heritage Center,
Brooklyn, New York; and

WHEREAS, The Dinner Table Doc's Eighteen Under 18 Awards Ceremony
was created to shine a light on students who are creating change in
their communities; unlike other awards ceremonies, the conversation will
lead a call to action for young women in the audience to participate by
pitching their own community centered initiatives; and

WHEREAS, The Dinner Table Doc is a community organization which
helps high school and college students live at their fullest potential
by coming face to face with opportunity through media literacy workshops
and self-esteem building events; and

WHEREAS, With a target audience of middle school and high school
aged young women of color, as well as incoming college freshmen, The
Dinner Table Doc hosts numerous events centered around the perception of
young women of color in media; and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, The Dinner Table Doc gives young women of
color the opportunity to sit and talk with mentors in an intimate dinner
setting; through these live dinner events and media literacy workshops,
this vital organization has benefitted more than 500 girls in the
Brooklyn area; and

WHEREAS, In 2016, The Dinner Table Doc was recognized by the Obama
Administration's White House Council of Women and Girls as a Nominated
Change agent at the United State of Women Summit; and

WHEREAS, The success of The Dinner Table Doc is in direct
correlation to the efforts of its Founder and President, Asha Boston,
whose involvement is, and always has been, characterized by an
impressive commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising
standard of excellence in all endeavors on behalf of the organization
and the young women it serves; and

WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents an opportunity for this
Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to The Dinner Table Doc;
and

WHEREAS, In light of its commitment, dedication and successful
efforts, it is the custom of this Legislative Body to extend its highest

commendation to The Dinner Table Doc of Brooklyn, New York; now,
therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend The Dinner Table Doc upon the occasion of hosting its Eighteen
Under 18 Awards Ceremony on March 9, 2019; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Asha Boston, Founder and President, The Dinner Table Doc.
