COMMEMORATING the 147th year since the
Metropolitan Museum of Art (MET) opened to the
public on February 20, 1872

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize the
historic, economic, and cultural value of this organization which
substantially contributes to the vitality and well-being of its
communities and the entire Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 147th year since the Metropolitan Museum of Art (MET)
opened to the public on February 20, 1872; and

WHEREAS, The MET was founded in 1872 and opened the same year for
the American people; and

WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents a unique opportunity for
this Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to the historical and
cultural contributions of the Metropolitan Museum of Art; and

WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body
acknowledges this exceptional organization and its valuable
contributions to the community, confident that it will continue to enjoy
the successes it has experienced thus far; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 147th Anniversary of the Metropolitan Museum of Art; and
be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, New York.
