CONGRATULATING Jay T. Wiebe upon the occasion of
receiving the distinguished rank of Eagle Scout, the
most prestigious of Scouting honors, on March 23,
2019
WHEREAS, Jay T. Wiebe, through his diligence and rigorous efforts,
has achieved Scouting's highest and most prestigious rank, Eagle Scout;
the Eagle Court of Honor ceremony will be held on Saturday, March 23,
2019, at Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department, Manhasset, New York; and
WHEREAS, Jay T. Wiebe, joined Troop 71 in the sixth grade,
immediately stepping up to serve as Patrol Leader, followed by
Instructor, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader and Senior Patrol Leader; he
went on to receive formal leadership training through the Theodore
Roosevelt Council's Junior Leadership Orientation Workshop in 2018; and
WHEREAS, In addition, throughout his Scouting career, this
extraordinary young man has earned 21 merit badges; and
WHEREAS, With a passion for camping, Jay T. Wiebe went to Philmont
Scout Ranch, where he hiked almost 80 miles in 12 days through the New
Mexico wilderness; he also enjoyed attending the Dippikill Wilderness
Camp in upstate New York; and
WHEREAS, A Senior at Roslyn High School, Jay T. Wiebe participated
in volleyball, where he was captain for two years and won the 2018
Nassau County Men's Volleyball Unsung Hero Award; in track, he
participates in shot put and discus, and was All Conference in weight
throw; and
WHEREAS, America has achieved her greatest heights of glory through
the dedication, determination and tireless efforts of the outstanding
citizens of this Nation; and
WHEREAS, It is only with the continued diligence and devotion of our
youth, tomorrow's leaders, that America will maintain her glory; and
WHEREAS, The Boy Scouts of America and its members are dedicated to
the development of character and leadership in the youth of this Nation;
and
WHEREAS, The highest achievement of leadership in Scouting, earned
by approximately five percent of all Boy Scouts, is the distinguished
rank of Eagle Scout; and
WHEREAS, This outstanding young man has been involved in Scouting
for many years, has lived up to Scouting's ideals and has attained all
of the necessary achievements, including completion of a community
service project, which was successfully planned, developed and executed;
and
WHEREAS, For his project, Jay T. Wiebe designed and built a Veterans
Memorial Garden outside the Roslyn Harbor Village Hall; he created a
stepping-stone path leading into the garden, as well as a dedication
plaque affixed to a large granite boulder with a quote chosen by the
Mayor; on both sides of the path he planted Montauk daisies, cardinal
flowers, mums and tall grass, and finished it off with a layer of black
mulch surrounding the entire memorial garden; and
WHEREAS, His dedication to the safety and well-being of the citizens
of Manhasset is represented through his project and demonstrates his
devotion to both community and commitment to others; and
WHEREAS, As he goes forward in his academic career, Jay T. Wiebe
plans on majoring in engineering, while continuing the ideals and
principles of the Boy Scouts; and
WHEREAS, Jay T. Wiebe's perseverance in rising through the ranks to
Eagle Scout is a strong indication of his ability to master difficult
tasks; his accomplishment will enable him to emerge as a leader, fully
equipped to meet the challenges of today's complex society; and
WHEREAS, This new Eagle Scout is a credit to his family, his school,
his community, his State and his Nation, and no doubt his future will be
filled with accomplishments of equal importance; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations, in
recognition of the significance of this meritorious achievement, to
congratulate and honor Jay T. Wiebe on achieving the rank of Eagle
Scout; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Jay T. Wiebe.
