HONORING Bree Schonbrun Dumain and Ian Dumain upon
the occasion of their designation as recipients of
the Young Leadership Award by Temple Israel Center
of White Plains on March 16, 2019

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of those individuals within the State of New York who give of
their time and energies in support of spiritual endeavors which aim to
benefit the community at large; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Bree Schonbrun Dumain and Ian Dumain upon the occasion of their
designation as recipients of the Young Leadership Award by Temple Israel
Center of White Plains to be celebrated at its Annual Gala and
Fundraiser at the Center in White Plains, New York, on Saturday, March
16, 2019; and

WHEREAS, Bree and Ian Dumain joined Temple Israel Center (TIC) in
2013, when they moved to Harrison from the Upper West Side; at that
time, their daughter, Zoe, was in the TIC Nursery School, and their son,
Abe, was in kindergarten at Schechter Westchester; since then, TIC has
become a second home to their beautiful family and they all love
spending Shabbatot and haggim at the shul; and

WHEREAS, Not long after joining the shul, Bree Schonbrun Dumain
began sitting on committees and planning events; currently, she sits on
the Board of Trustees, the Catering Committee, the Membership Committee,
and the Nominating Committee; she is also a member of the Hesed Circle,
and was a co-chair of the Gala in both 2016 and 2017; and

WHEREAS, In 2018, Bree Schonbrun Dumain was the Fundraising Chair
for The Rabbi Gordon Tucker Fund for Jewish Learning, Thought and
Culture; she is now on the Steering Committee for the Fund; and

WHEREAS, An active volunteer at Schechter Westchester, she has also
been a co-Chair of Schechter's Gala for the last two years; before
moving to Westchester, she served two terms as PTA President at the
Chabad Early Learning Center in Manhattan; and

WHEREAS, In addition to her committee work, Bree Schonbrun Dumain
has one feat of physical strength to her credit: in 2018, she became the
first woman in memory, if not history, to perform Hagbah at a TIC Days
of Awe service, and Ian proudly dressed her Torah; and

WHEREAS, Ian Dumain was a member of the Rabbi Search Committee that
recruited incoming Senior Rabbi Annie Tucker to TIC; he was also the
Music Chair for the Gala in 2017 and 2018, bringing Soulfarm to the
community (and dancing through the nights); and

WHEREAS, In 2018, Ian Dumain revived the dormant TIC Blood Drive
with sponsorship from Brotherhood and Sisterhood, almost doubling the
yield from TIC's last drive; and


WHEREAS, Ian Dumain has also supported Bree's many volunteer
activities, providing counsel, encouragement, and elbow grease; the
couple met during law school orientation; prior to the birth of their
son, Bree was an assistant district attorney in the New York County
District Attorney's office, practicing in both trial and appellate
bureaus; she later worked at Ramah Nyack; and

WHEREAS, Ian Dumain is a litigation partner at Boies Schiller
Flexner LLP, specializing in complex business disputes; he has also
maintained an active pro bono practice; and

WHEREAS, In 2015, the Innocence Project honored Ian Dumain with its
Advocate for Justice Award for his wrongful conviction work; he is
equally proud of having obtained a $1 million settlement on behalf of
two minor victims of sexual abuse; today, he is a trustee of the trust
for their health, education, and welfare that the settlement funded; and

WHEREAS, Temple Israel Center is proud to honor such committed and
faithful young leaders such as Bree Schonbrun Dumain and Ian Dumain who
aspire to be like their role models, always thinking about what they can
give to their shul community, the local community, and the global
community; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Bree Schonbrun Dumain and Ian Dumain upon the occasion of their
designation as recipients of the Young Leadership Award by Temple Israel
Center of White Plains; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Bree Schonbrun Dumain and Ian Dumain.
