HONORING Emily Lin upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the 2nd Annual Howard
Graf Award for Creative Design and Architecture by
the Flushing Council on Culture and the Arts

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Emily Lin upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the 2nd
Annual Howard Graf Award for Creative Design and Architecture by the
Flushing Council on Culture and the Arts to be celebrated at Flushing
Town Hall's 40th Annual Gala on Thursday, June 6, 2019; and

WHEREAS, Emily Lin, Principal of LIN + ASSOCIATES Architects, PC,
founded her practice in late 1995, with a staff of two; since then the
firm has grown considerably to include a staff of 10 full time
personnel; and

WHEREAS, Currently based in Kew Gardens, New York, the practice
includes a wide range of condominium, residential, commercial,
institutional, religious, retail, interior and multi-use projects
throughout the Tri-State Area and China; and

WHEREAS, As the head of design and business development, Emily Lin
coordinates all new projects with clients and developers; her design for
a residential urban planning complex in China won Second Place honors in
China's National Design Competition; and

WHEREAS, Emily Lin has also served as the architect for the People's
Republic of China, Ministry of Foreign Affairs for all its projects in
New York City, including the construction of a new Residential/Office
Mission-Complex to the United Nations, a new 23-story Residential Tower
for the General Consulate of the People's Republic of China, and the
renovation of the existing General Consulate; and

WHEREAS, With extensive experience in design and construction for
projects in New York and New Jersey, Emily Lin is licensed in both
states and serves as an expert witness for NYC/NYS building code, ADA
and related construction matters; and

WHEREAS, A true asset to her community, Emily Lin is a member of the
American Institute of Architects, Long Island Chapter, where she served
on the Executive Board from 1995 to 1998, and then again from 2001 to
2003, chairing the Women in Architecture Committee; and

WHEREAS, Born in Taiwan in 1956, Emily Lin immigrated to the United
States in 1971; she received her architectural training and professional

degree from Pratt Institute in 1979, and completed advanced studies at
Harvard University Graduate School of Design in 1992; and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, she is a graduate of Queens County's
Economical Development Entrepreneur Program where she has been a Board
member since 2004; and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Emily Lin has displayed
throughout her life; and

WHEREAS, It has always been the objective of this Legislative Body
to honor and support those individuals who have displayed their
commitment to the betterment of their communities, and it is the intent
of this Legislative Body to inscribe upon its records, this tribute to
Emily Lin, that future generations may know and appreciate her admirable
character, her many benevolent deeds, and the respect and esteem in
which she is held by her peers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Emily Lin upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
2nd Annual Howard Graf Award for Creative Design and Architecture by the
Flushing Council on Culture and the Arts; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Emily Lin.
