COMMENDING Deputy Chief Ernest Bohringer upon the
occasion of his designation as recipient of a
Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an
individual by the New York State Senate
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend the caring concern and heroic acts of individuals who take
prompt and appropriate action in emergency situations, nobly risking
their own lives in an effort to preserve the life of another; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Deputy Chief Ernest Bohringer upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed
upon an individual by the New York State Senate; and
WHEREAS, The New York State Senate Liberty Medal was established by
Resolution and is awarded to individuals who have merited special
commendation for exceptional, heroic, or humanitarian acts on behalf of
their fellow New Yorkers; and
WHEREAS, In the early morning hours of Sunday, March 3, 2019,
Malverne Volunteer Fire Department Deputy Chief Ernest Bohringer was on
his way home from his shift at the Port Authority when he responded to
the scene of a raging fire at a deli in Valley Stream, New York, just
moments before units from his department were requested; and
WHEREAS, During this time, Dispatch alerted that an occupant may
still be inside at the rear of the location; and
WHEREAS, Upon his arrival to the scene, Deputy Chief Ernest
Bohringer, along with members of the Nassau Police, immediately rushed
to the rear of the building; and
WHEREAS, Responding without hesitation or regard for his own safety,
Deputy Chief Ernest Bohringer forced open a locked door and found the
victim unconscious on the floor with just minutes to live; and
WHEREAS, Deputy Chief Ernest Bohringer pulled the victim to safety,
and he was transported to the hospital; and
WHEREAS, This brave man truly exemplifies what it means to be a
Malverne Volunteer Firefighter; and
WHEREAS, Born and raised in Valley Stream, Ernest Bohringer moved to
Malverne, New York in 2006; in addition to his 11 years of steadfast and
unwavering service to the Malverne Volunteer Fire Department, he is a
Cub Scout Leader and proud father of three; and
WHEREAS, Deputy Chief Ernest Bohringer, in his spontaneous and
heroic act, has so aptly demonstrated his character and compassion for
the welfare of others, personifying, by virtue of his action, the
collective concern of ordinary citizens across the community of New York
State who voluntarily respond without thought of danger or reward when
others are in need of help; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Deputy Chief Ernest Bohringer upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed
upon an individual by the New York State Senate; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Deputy Chief Ernest Bohringer.
