COMMEMORATING the 108th Anniversary of Albertson
Hook & Ladder Engine & Hose Company No. 1, Inc. to
be celebrated on April 6, 2019

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proud to commemorate the 108th
Anniversary of Albertson Hook & Ladder Engine & Hose Company No. 1, Inc.
to be celebrated at its Annual Dinner Dance on Saturday, April 6, 2019,
and to honor its past and present firefighting members for 108 years of
fire protection to the citizens of Albertson, New York, and its
surrounding communities; and

WHEREAS, Fire departments are an integral part of community
protection services in every locality of our State; during the past 108
years, the courageous and devoted firefighters of Albertson Hook &
Ladder Engine & Hose Company No. 1 have valiantly responded to all types
of fire emergencies and have won the praise and respect of the community
which they serve; and

WHEREAS, After a severe fire on Stevens Avenue burned the home of
the Schmidt family to the ground on Saturday, July 23, 1910, the
residents of Albertson Square, Nassau Heights and the surrounding
communities decided it was time to form a fire department; and

WHEREAS, On September 8, 1910, a committee consisting of Charles A.
Eisele, William Burke and Edward J. Martin put forth a Resolution to
form the Albertson Fire Company No. 1; and

WHEREAS, The Albertson Hook & Ladder, Engine & Hose Company No. 1
was officially chartered on September 22, 1910, with its charter
members: John Martin, President; Thomas K. Fookes, Vice President;
William Burke, Foreman; George Schmidt, Assistant Foreman; Charles A.
Eisele, Treasurer; Edward J. Martin, Secretary; William A. J. Hewel,
Trustee; Adolph Gauggel, Trustee; Theodore E. Kohlman; John A. Hewel;
and Michael Burke; and

WHEREAS, For more than a century, Albertson Hook & Ladder Engine &
Hose Company No. 1 has proudly served the residents of the Albertson,
Searingtown and Roslyn Heights communities with around the clock fire
protection and emergency rescue response; and

WHEREAS, The dedicated volunteers of Albertson Hook & Ladder Engine
& Hose Company No. 1 put in many hours of schooling and training to
master the skills required for the firefighting and lifesaving
challenges they encounter each day; and

WHEREAS, With a membership of dedicated firefighters, the record of
Albertson Hook & Ladder Engine & Hose Company No. 1 in public service
and fire protection is one to be envied; for 24 hours a day, for 365
days a year, for 108 years, whenever the alarm sounded, these noble
volunteers left their homes and went to the aid of their neighbors; and

WHEREAS, The brave firefighters of Albertson Hook & Ladder Engine &
Hose Company No. 1 are prepared to risk their lives every day to help

save the lives of others and to protect homes and property from the
destruction caused by fire; and

WHEREAS, In addition to the skill and devoted service demonstrated
by individual firefighters, Albertson Hook & Ladder Engine & Hose
Company No. 1 reflects the history and development of firefighting over
the past 108 years; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body cannot express sufficient gratitude
to those devoted individuals who recognize that the preservation of life
and property is a sacred responsibility and who make that responsibility
their own by serving as firefighters; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that we should
give special recognition to those who work so assiduously for the
betterment of their communities, and acknowledge publicly the heroic
good works performed by the volunteer fire departments of this great
Empire State, their officers and auxiliaries; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
proudly commemorate the 108th Anniversary of Albertson Hook & Ladder
Engine & Hose Company No. 1, Inc. to be celebrated on April 6, 2019;
and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Albertson Hook & Ladder Engine & Hose Company No. 1, Inc.
