CONGRATULATING Dylan Houseknecht upon the occasion
of capturing the 285-pound Division II wrestling
title at the NYSPHSAA Wrestling Championships on
February 23, 2019
WHEREAS, Individual and team championships are highly sought after
in high school sports; this Legislative Body commends rare athletic
achievements and pays special recognition to those who pursue such
excellence and become examples for the youth of this great Empire State;
and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition helps to enhance both the moral and
physical development of young athletes, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the importance of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, and developing a sense of fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate Dylan
Houseknecht upon the occasion of capturing the 285-pound Division II
wrestling title at the NYSPHSAA Wrestling Championships on Saturday,
February 23, 2019, at the Times Union Center in Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, A standout wrestler for the Odessa-Montour Wrestling Team,
Dylan Houseknecht was proudly crowned Division II's 285-pound wrestling
State Champion; this monumental win was the first in his school's
history; and
WHEREAS, In front of a capacity crowd and a fan base of family,
friends and teammates, number three-seeded Dylan Houseknecht earned a
4-2 decision in overtime over his rival from Newark Valley High School;
and
WHEREAS, Dylan Houseknecht ended his season with an impressive
overall record of 44-2, making it one of Odessa-Montour Central School
District's best; and
WHEREAS, In addition to wrestling, Dylan Houseknecht is a valuable
member of both the football and track teams and attends the GST BOCES
Criminal Justice Program; currently, he is ranked 14th in his class with
a GPA of 91; after high school, he plans to continue his education at
SUNY Cortland; and
WHEREAS, In a sport such as wrestling, which demands athletic
prowess, speed and agility, Coaches Bill Lindsley and Daniel Batchelder
worked hard to hone the skills of this champion, teaching this
outstanding athlete lessons which will prove invaluable both on and off
the mat; and
WHEREAS, Dylan Houseknecht has clearly utilized dedication,
determination and teamwork in providing a lasting contribution to the
spirit of excellence which is a tradition of his school; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Dylan Houseknecht upon the occasion of capturing the
285-pound Division II wrestling title at the NYSPHSAA Wrestling
Championships; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Dylan Houseknecht and Coaches Bill Lindsley and Daniel
Bathchelder.
