CONGRATULATING student-athlete Lindsay Bettke upon
the occasion of being named a Third-Team
All-American by D3Hoops

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body takes pleasure in honoring talented
collegiate athletes who distinguish themselves and their community
through outstanding academic and athletic performance; and

WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical
development of the young adults of this State, preparing them for the
future by instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a
standard of healthy living, imparting a desire for success and
developing a sense of fair play and competition; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate
student-athlete Lindsay Bettke upon the occasion of being named a
Third-Team All-American by D3Hoops; and

WHEREAS, A senior on the SUNY New Paltz Women's Basketball Team,
Lindsay Bettke helped lead the Hawks to its best season in program
history this past year, leading the way to the team's fourth State
University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championship and its
second trip to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament; and

WHEREAS, In the latter part of their season, the Hawks won
21-straight games, during which Lindsay Bettke dropped a career-high 32
points in the second game against the Red Dragons, while totaling eight
20-plus point outings; and

WHEREAS, More importantly, Lindsay Bettke played at her best during
SUNY New Paltz's postseason run; she averaged 22 points, 41 percent from
the field and 67 percent from 3-point range per contest in two SUNYAC
playoff games, including matching a career-high in 3-pointers made
against the Golden Eagles, en route to earning her second SUNYAC
Tournament MVP; and

WHEREAS, During the Hawks' first two NCAA playoff games at the Hawk
Center, Lindsay Bettke combined for 28 points to help her team achieve
19-plus point victories, ultimately ending her final postseason campaign
averaging 20 points on 48 percent shooting from behind the arc; and

WHEREAS, In addition to being named Third-Team All-American by
D3Hoops, Lindsay Bettke was the recipient of numerous other awards and
accolades including two SUNYAC MVP Awards; three All-SUNYAC selections,
including two First-Team nods; SUNYAC Player of the Year, the first for
the Hawks; D3Hoops All-East region selection; and WBCA All-American
Honorable Mention, while also leaving as the second all-time leading
scorer in school history with 1,234 points; and

WHEREAS, Throughout her outstanding basketball career at SUNY New
Paltz, Lindsay Bettke truly loved the big moment and the big game; and

WHEREAS, Lindsay Bettke has distinguished herself as a young woman
of superlative ability, talent, and maturity, establishing standards of
excellence and achievement, purposefulness of life, and responsibility
rarely achieved in youthful years; and

WHEREAS, An outstanding role model for her fellow students, Lindsay
Bettke has brought honor to her family, school, and community; and

WHEREAS, Lindsay Bettke may stand with pride in her achievements,
experiencing the satisfaction of her labors and the joy of her
accomplishments, eager to face the challenge of new experiences as she
continues her education; and

WHEREAS, Lindsay Bettke represents the potential inherent in our
most precious resource, our young adults; this Legislative Body is
pleased to honor this young woman, recognizing her achievements and the
promise of her future; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate student-athlete Lindsay Bettke upon the occasion of being
named a Third-Team All-American by D3Hoops; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Lindsay Bettke.
