COMMENDING Emily Cavanagh upon the occasion of her
selection as a member of the 2019 U.S. Track and
Field and Cross Country Coaches Association
(USTFCCCA) Individual All-Academic Team

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body takes pleasure in honoring talented
collegiate athletes who distinguish themselves and their community
through outstanding academic and athletic performance; and

WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical
development of the young adults of this State, preparing them for the
future by instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a
standard of healthy living, imparting a desire for success and
developing a sense of fair play and competition; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Emily
Cavanagh upon the occasion of her selection as a member of the 2019 U.S.
Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA)
Individual All-Academic Team; and

WHEREAS, In order to qualify for this auspicious honor, Cassandra
Williams recorded a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or more, while also finishing
in the top 25% of her regional championship meet; and

WHEREAS, A junior majoring in fine arts, Emily Cavanagh qualified
for the NCAA National Championships after finishing the Atlantic Region
meet 10th overall with a time of 22 minutes, 52.4 seconds; at Nationals
she finished as the 84th best runner in the country; and

WHEREAS, This exceptional student-athlete finished out the year
earning All-Atlantic Region, Second-Team All-Conference and State
University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Hall of Fame honors;
and

WHEREAS, Academically and athletically, Emily Cavanagh has
distinguished herself as a young woman of superlative ability, talent,
and maturity, establishing standards of excellence and achievement,
purposefulness of life, and responsibility rarely achieved in youthful
years; and

WHEREAS, An outstanding role model for her fellow students, Emily
Cavanagh has brought honor to her family, school, and community; and

WHEREAS, Emily Cavanagh may stand with pride in her achievements,
experiencing the satisfaction of her labors and the joy of her
accomplishments, eager to face the challenge of new experiences as she
continues her education; and

WHEREAS, Emily Cavanagh represents the potential inherent in our
most precious resource, our young adults; this Legislative Body is
pleased to honor this young woman, recognizing her achievements and the
promise of her future; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Emily Cavanagh upon the occasion of her selection as a member of
the 2019 U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association
(USTFCCCA) Individual All-Academic Team; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Emily Cavanagh.
