COMMENDING the Brookdale University Hospital and
Medical Center upon the occasion of hosting its
first Annual Hospital Gala on May 9, 2019

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize
those hospitals within the State of New York which provide outstanding
medical care and vital services to meet the healthcare needs of their
patients; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend the Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center upon the
occasion of hosting its first Annual Hospital Gala to be held at
Paerdegat Squadron Hall located in the hospital in Brooklyn, New York,
on Thursday, May 9, 2019; and

WHEREAS, The Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center, the
leader in healthcare in East Brooklyn, is a nonprofit medical services
provider in the borough of Brooklyn, New York City; and

WHEREAS, Brookdale's primary and secondary service areas together
comprise 1 million residents; and

WHEREAS, One of Brooklyn's largest voluntary nonprofit teaching
hospitals and a regional tertiary care center, the Brookdale University
Hospital and Medical Center provides 24-hour emergency services,
numerous outpatient programs and long-term specialty car; and

WHEREAS, In addition, the Brookdale University Hospital and Medical
Center is one of Brooklyn's largest full service emergency departments
and one of 15 Level 1 Trauma Centers in New York City; and

WHEREAS, This valuable and necessary hospital is one of 14 New York
State DOH designated Stroke Centers in Brooklyn; it provides numerous
outpatient Ambulatory care services in both on campus and off site
facilities; and

WHEREAS, The Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center
specializes in rehabilitative medicine and long-term specialty care in
its Schulman and Schachne Institute for Nursing and Rehabilitation; it
is also home to 86 units of assisted living and independent housing in
the Arlene and David Schlang Pavilion; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body recognizes the vital importance of
the Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center in providing
excellence in care through prevention, education and treatment, and its
evident commitment to this mission; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center upon the
occasion of hosting its first Annual Hospital Gala; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center.
