MOURNING the death of Aurora M. Goncalves, devoted
wife and mother, distinguished citizen and dedicated
member of her community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Aurora M. Goncalves of Mount Vernon, New York passed away
on Tuesday, March 26, 2019, at the age of 89; and

WHEREAS, Born on September 25, 1929, Aurora Maria Afonso was the
daughter of the late Antonio Afonso and Filomena Rosa De Miranda; and

WHEREAS, Aurora M. Afonso and Joao Goncalves were united in marriage
on August 5, 1961; in the early 1960s, the couple emigrated to Brazil
where their son, Antonio, was born in 1963; and

WHEREAS, In 1970, Aurora M. Goncalves and her young family emigrated
to the United States and settled in Mount Vernon, where she worked in
the garment industry; and

WHEREAS, Aurora M. Goncalves's commitment to excellence, and her
spirit of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise,
including charitable and civic endeavors; and

WHEREAS, Predeceased by her siblings, Anibal, Virginia and Ana Rosa,
Aurora M. Goncalves is survived by her husband of 57 years, Joao; a son,
Antonio (Darlene); two grandchildren, John and Alec; and four siblings,
Delfim, Domingos, Ilidio and Florinda; and

WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Aurora M. Goncalves leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
she served and befriended; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Aurora M. Goncalves, devoted wife and mother,
distinguished citizen and dedicated member of her community; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Aurora M. Goncalves.
