HONORING L. Carlos Zapata, MD, FACEP upon the
occasion of his designation for special recognition
by the Medical Society of the County of Queens Inc.
and the Academy of Medicine Queens County on May 13,
2019

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality of life in the communities across this great State of New
York is enriched by the diligence and compassionate commitment of those
individuals whose singular purpose is the care and welfare of others;
and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
L. Carlos Zapata, MD, FACEP upon the occasion of his designation for
special recognition by the Medical Society of the County of Queens Inc.
and the Academy of Medicine Queens County to be celebrated at its 212th
Annual Dinner & President's Recognition Day on Monday, May 13, 2019, at
Russo's On The Bay, Howard Beach, New York; and

WHEREAS, The son of Luis and Lydia Zapata, L. Carlos Zapata attended
New York University where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in
2006 and his Medical degree in 2010; he went on to complete a residency
in Emergency Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell School of Medicine's LIJ
program in 2014; and

WHEREAS, Dr. L. Carlos Zapata is board certified in Emergency
Medicine and is a fellow of the American College of Emergency
Physicians; and

WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to his
profession, Dr. L. Carlos Zapata has been a member of the Medical
Society of the County of Queens since he moved to Queens, New York, in
2010; prior to his election as President, the esteemed position he
served from 2017-2018, he served as the organization's Treasurer; and

WHEREAS, Dr. L. Carlos Zapata is also a member of the American
Medical Association - Young Physician Section Assembly, and a Councilor
for the Medical Society of the State of New York, where he has held
numerous leadership positions since his first month of medical school in
2006; and

WHEREAS, In addition, he is a member of the New York Chapter of the
American College of Emergency Physicians Government Affairs Committee;
and

WHEREAS, Dr. L. Carlos Zapata currently practices in the Emergency
Department at Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, New York,
where he is the Assistant Residency Program Director; he also maintains
privileges at Long Island Jewish Medical Center and Forest Hills
Hospital; and

WHEREAS, With him throughout has been his wife, Tracy, who has shown
him love and support and rejoices in his many achievements; and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Dr. L. Carlos Zapata has
displayed throughout his life; and

WHEREAS, In the faithful performance of his duties and
responsibilities, Dr. L. Carlos Zapata's ongoing efforts and notable
achievements have significantly contributed to bettering the quality of
life in his community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor L. Carlos Zapata, MD, FACEP upon the occasion of his designation
for special recognition by the Medical Society of the County of Queens
Inc. and the Academy of Medicine Queens County on May 13, 2019; and be
it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to L. Carlos Zapata, MD, FACEP.
