HONORING Nancy Snyder upon the occasion of her
designation for special recognition by the New York
State Office for the Aging on May 21, 2019
WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge
to the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their
past contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and
valuable asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Nancy Snyder
upon the occasion of her designation for special recognition by the New
York State Office for the Aging at its Annual Older New Yorker's Day
Celebration on Tuesday, May 21, 2019, at the Hart Theatre Lounge in The
Egg, Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, Each May, the New York State Office for the Aging pauses to
acknowledge the outstanding contributions made by older citizens during
National Older Americans Month; and
WHEREAS, Members of older generations have helped build and shape
our Nation to be the greatest in the world; they have defended our
freedoms and values to ensure that those who come after them may have
better lives; nowhere in the Nation is the legacy of their efforts more
visible and more a part of the lives of all citizens than here in the
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, A life-long resident of Steuben County, Nancy Snyder
graduated from Hammondsport Central School in 1960, before earning her
nursing degree from St. James Mercy School of Nursing in Hornell, New
York; and
WHEREAS, Upon the completion of her studies, Nancy Snyder and her
husband of 45 years, the late Larry who worked as a professional horse
trainer, traveled as he applied his trade, allowing Nancy the chance to
work at hospitals in Cooperstown, Oneonta, and Turners Falls,
Massachusetts; and
WHEREAS, After 10 years on the road, the couple returned to
Pulteney, New York, and Nancy began working at Ira Davenport Memorial
Hospital in Bath; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her illustrious nursing career, Nancy Snyder
served as a floor nurse, an ambulatory surgery nurse, and an emergency
room nurse; her extended service, particularly on the overnights in the
emergency room, earned her the nick-name, "Nancy Night Nurse"; and
WHEREAS, A 38-year member of the Pulteney Presbyterian Church, Nancy
Snyder served as an elder and has taken the lead in organizing the
annual CROP-walk, raising funds to help fight hunger in the community;
and
WHEREAS, Nancy Snyder has served as an Emergency Medical Technician
(EMT) with the Pulteney Volunteer Ambulance Corps (PVAC) for 39 years;
during this time, she served as the Captain for three terms, the QA/QI
Officer for 22 years, the medical director liaison, and as a clinical
instructor for EMT classes; and
WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to her
community, Nancy Snyder continues to serve as an EMT, responding to
approximately 50% of the emergency calls, as well as personal calls to
help neighbors in need of minor medical attention; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, she provides more than just basic medical
support by staying to visit with her older neighbors to offer
companionship, bringing comfort, encouragement, strength and love to
countless individuals throughout her local community; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Nancy Snyder has displayed
throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, Nancy Snyder, a very active and industrious woman, has
inspired and enriched the lives of those she serves through her
volunteerism, generously sharing the wisdom gained over years of
experiencing life to its fullest; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Nancy Snyder upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by the New York State Office for the Aging on May 21, 2019;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Nancy Snyder.
