HONORING Lester R. Grummons upon the occasion of
his designation as recipient of the Eugene A.
Bettiol, Jr., Distinguished Citizen Award by the
Otsego County Chamber of Commerce on May 2, 2019

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that the quality
and character of life in this great Empire State is indelibly enriched
by the faithful efforts of those outstanding businesses and individuals
who have positively impacted their communities and serve the public
need; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Lester R. Grummons upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the Eugene A. Bettiol, Jr., Distinguished Citizen Award by the Otsego
County Chamber of Commerce on Thursday, May 2, 2019, at The Foothills
Performing Arts and Civic Center, Oneonta, New York; and

WHEREAS, Lester R. Grummons, affectionately known as Les, is
receiving this prestigious award, sponsored by Catskill Area Hospice and
Palliative Care, in recognition of his long term impact on the region
and for giving to the community through his business; and

WHEREAS, For decades, as the owner of the Lester R. Grummons Funeral
Home in Oneonta, New York, Lester R. Grummons has distinguished himself
as a foremost professional in offering funeral services; and

WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to his
community, Lester R. Grummons has served the American Legion at both the
state and national levels, dedicating himself to the various needs of
our veterans; and

WHEREAS, A true asset to Oneonta, Lester R. Grummons has been
instrumental in the organization of the annual Memorial Day Parade, and
was elected as 8th ward alderman on the common council; in addition, he
has served on the boards of Catholic Charities, St. Mary's Church, and
Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care; and

WHEREAS, As an airport commissioner, Lester R. Grummons assisted
with Oneonta Municipal Airport's 50th Anniversary; and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Lester R. Grummons has
displayed throughout his life; and

WHEREAS, It has always been the objective of this Legislative Body
to honor and support those individuals who have displayed their
commitment to the betterment of their communities, and it is the intent
of this Legislative Body to inscribe upon its records, this tribute to
Lester R. Grummons, that future generations may know and appreciate his
admirable character, his many benevolent deeds, and the respect and
esteem in which he is held by his peers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Lester R. Grummons upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of the Eugene A. Bettiol, Jr., Distinguished Citizen Award by
the Otsego County Chamber of Commerce on May 2, 2019; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Lester R. Grummons.
