HONORING Angelo Favata upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the 2019 Veteran of the
Year Award by the Veteran's Council of Oswego on May
17, 2019

WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of New York,
who have served so valiantly and honorably in wars in which this
country's freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of peace
in peacetime, deserve a special salute from this Legislative Body; and

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commend those
who have served in times of active conflict, as well as those who have
served in times of peace; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Angelo
Favata upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the 2019
Veteran of the Year Award by the Veteran's Council of Oswego to be
celebrated at its Annual Dinner on Friday, May 17, 2019, at the VFW in
Oswego, New York; and

WHEREAS, The Veteran of the Year Award recognizes individuals who
have served honorably in the military, as well as those who have
contributed to the betterment of their community after being discharged;
Angelo Favata is truly deserving of this prestigious award; and

WHEREAS, After being drafted at the young age of 17, Angelo
"Jitters" Favata proudly served our country as a member of the United
States Army Field Artillery during World War II; he and his fellow
soldiers were part of the Allied invasion of Normandy in Operation
Overlord; codenamed Operation Neptune and often referred to as D-Day, it
was the largest seaborne invasion in history; and

WHEREAS, In December of 1944, Angelo Favata participated in the
Battle of the Bulge, the largest and bloodiest single battle fought by
the United States in World War II, and the second deadliest battle in
American history; and

WHEREAS, For his meritorious service, Angelo Favata was the
recipient of numerous awards and accolades; he travelled on the Honor
Flight and was inducted into the World War II Hall of Fame; and

WHEREAS, Devoted to his community, Angelo Favata and his band,
Jitters and the Westernairs hosted numerous benefit concerts for those
in need; and

WHEREAS, Angelo Favata is the proud father of five children, Patty,
Mary Margaret, Sarah, Tom, and the late Bill; and

WHEREAS, Residents of this great State must never forget the courage
with which these men and women served their country, and must recognize
that no greater debt is owed than that owed to those who gave their
lives for their beloved Nation and to those who continue to be missing
in action; and


WHEREAS, Having exhibited his patriotism both at home and abroad,
Angelo Favata has demonstrated his love for his country and merits
forevermore, the highest respect of his State and Nation; and

WHEREAS, Our Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized, commended
and thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and
for their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Angelo Favata upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the 2019 Veteran of the Year Award by the Veteran's Council of Oswego on
May 17, 2019; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Angelo Favata.
