COMMENDING Knights of Columbus, Joan of Arc
Council 1992 upon the occasion of celebrating its
100th Anniversary on July 21, 2019

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those fraternal organizations of high purpose and worthy
accomplishment whose endeavors have faithfully served the welfare of the
citizens of the State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Knights of Columbus, Joan of Arc Council 1992 upon the occasion
of its 100th Anniversary of service to Church and Community; to
celebrate this auspicious milestone, a Mass will be held in the Chapel
followed by a Buffet at the Waterview, Port Jefferson Country Club, on
Sunday, July 21, 2019; and

WHEREAS, Established in 1882 by The Reverend Father Michael Joseph
McGivney for the purpose of giving financial assistance to widows and
children, the Knights of Columbus is a Catholic men's fraternal benefit
society with more approximately 2 million members located in over 14,000
Councils throughout the world; and

WHEREAS, Knights of Columbus, Joan of Arc Council 1992 was founded
by Grand Knight John R. Melvin and Chaplain The Reverend Father John H.
Roex, S.M.M; and

WHEREAS, Knights of Columbus, Joan of Arc Council 1992 is located in
the Parish of Infant Jesus RC Church, Port Jefferson, New York; and

WHEREAS, Throughout its distinguished history, Knights of Columbus,
Joan of Arc Council 1992 has supported four ideals: Charity, Unity,
Fraternity and Patriotism; its members have exemplified these principles
through their support of worthy causes; and

WHEREAS, In so effectively carrying out its mission, Knights of
Columbus, Joan of Arc Council 1992 has demonstrated the value of
fostering camaraderie in a shared vision of community service; this
mission is indicative of a noble organization which epitomizes the heart
and soul of what it means to be an American; and

WHEREAS, A non-profit, charitable organization, Knights of Columbus,
Joan of Arc Council 1992 contributes both financial assistance and
volunteer hours to those in need; some activities include: food
collection, Blood Drives, student scholarships, Coats for Kids, Special
Olympics, youth athletics, disaster relief aid, visiting veterans both
home and in the hospital, and free pancake breakfasts; and

WHEREAS, Today, Knights of Columbus, Joan of Arc Council 1992 is
under the able leadership of Grand Knight Edward Byrne and Chaplain The
Reverend Father Patrick Riegger; the newly elected Grand Knight will be
Lawrence Johnson and The Reverend Father Patrick Riegger will continue
to serve as Chaplain; and


WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proudly moved to honor and commend
the members of the Knights of Columbus, Joan of Arc Council 1992, past
and present, who have labored so conscientiously to secure and improve
the quality of life for the community it serves; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Knights of Columbus, Joan of Arc Council 1992 upon the occasion
of celebrating its 100th Anniversary on July 21, 2019; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Grand Knight Edward Byrne, Knights of Columbus, Joan of
Arc Council 1992, Port Jefferson, New York.
