HONORING Lorrie Roach upon the occasion of being
named the 2019 Citizen of the Years by the Sidney
Chamber of Commerce on June 6, 2019

WHEREAS, From time to time we take note of certain individuals whom
we wish to recognize for their valued contributions and to publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Lorrie Roach
upon the occasion of being named the 2019 Citizen of the Years by the
Sidney Chamber of Commerce to be celebrated at its Annual Dinner on
Thursday, June 6, 2019, at the Sidney Fire Department Training Center;
and

WHEREAS, Born and raised in Chicago, Lorrie Roach graduated from
Northern Illinois University, where she met her late husband Dick Roach,
a native of Delaware County; in 1972, they relocated to Sidney, New
York, with their daughter, Pamela; and

WHEREAS, Shortly thereafter, Lorrie Roach became a vital and
treasured member of her new community; in 1974, she organized a Beta
Sigma Phi Chapter, and has been an active member ever since; she has
held all of the officer positions in the sorority and has overseen
countless programs

WHEREAS, Lorrie Roach has also been actively involved with the
Sidney Chamber of Commerce; she organized the annual Jolly Holly Days
Parade and related events for many years, and the annual Spring Tea from
2007-2015; and

WHEREAS, In addition, Lorrie Roach has always been available to
answer questions or provide information at the Chamber of Commerce table
at public events such as the summer Arts and Music Festival and the
Business Expo; and

WHEREAS, In 2014, Lorrie Roach became a director for the Sidney
United Way, and served as president in 2018; she is a member of the
Literacy Boosters Committee, and served as a director on the board of
the former "The Hospital" in Sidney; and

WHEREAS, This remarkable woman was also one of the founders and
president of the local Hill and Valley Garden Club which is responsible
for beautification projects throughout Sidney including the new "Welcome
To Sidney" sign; and

WHEREAS, Today, Lorrie Roach holds the title of chairperson of the
Sidney Shade Tree Commission, which is responsible for the annual Arbor
Day Celebration, planning for tree planting in the village and working
to continue obtaining the designation of Sidney as a Tree City, a
program of the National Arbor Day Association; and

WHEREAS, Prior to beginning her interior design business in the
1980s, Lorrie Roach served as the teacher-director of Tri-Town Nursery
School in Sidney for 15 years; currently semi-retired, she continues to
work as a kitchen and interior designer and enjoys reading, gardening
and making home crafted greeting cards to send to friends and family
throughout the year; and

WHEREAS, Lorrie Roach is an inspiration to many people, and her
dedication and commitment to the Village of Sidney have proven her to be
the epitome of true leadership; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Lorrie Roach upon the occasion of being named the 2019 Citizen of
the Years by the Sidney Chamber of Commerce on June 6, 2019; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Lorrie Roach.
