COMMENDING Kevin Shanley upon the occasion of his
retirement after many years of distinguished service
as Superintendent of the Akron Central School

WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to take note of
and publicly acknowledge individuals of remarkable integrity and
character whose endeavors have enhanced the quality of education in this
great State; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Kevin
Shanley upon the occasion of his retirement as Superintendent of the
Akron Central School; he will officially retire at the end of the 2019
school year; and

WHEREAS, Kevin Shanley received both a bachelor's degree and a
master's degree in Science Education from SUNY Brockport; he also holds
a permanent New York State certification in Administration/Supervisor,
School District Administrator and Physical Education; and

WHEREAS, Kevin Shanley began his illustrious career in education as
a Physical Education teacher in 1986; in 1998, he served as Principal of
Gasport Elementary School in Roy-Hart, and served there until 2001, when
he accepted the position of Principal at the Junior/Senior High School;
from 2005-2009, he served as Principal at Roy-Hart High School; and

WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to education,
Kevin Shanley became the Superintendent of the Cuba-Rushford School
District, where he would remain until 2012, when he moved north to
become Superintendent of Akron Central School, and to be closer to his
parents and reside in Clarence Center with his wife, Nikki; and

WHEREAS, This distinguished educator has continually demonstrated an
impressive dedication, an unparalleled devotion and an unremitting
enthusiasm for the quality of the educational programs and opportunities
offered at Akron Central School for the benefit of its faculty and
students, as well as for the entire community; and

WHEREAS, The result of many individual efforts, the excellence and
the success of Akron Central School is due in large to the efforts of
Kevin Shanley; and

WHEREAS, An avid Buffalo Sabres and Bills fan, Kevin Shanley also
loves to travel, eat almonds, and most of all, go on outings with his
two young granddaughters, Julie and Lily; and

WHEREAS, In completing his service as Superintendent, Kevin Shanley
leaves behind more than mere bricks and mortar; he leaves behind a
legacy to the residents of the Akron Central School community and to
future generations of its students; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Kevin Shanley upon the occasion of his retirement, and for his

many significant contributions to education in New York State; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Kevin Shanley.
