CONGRATULATING John Herritage upon the occasion of
his retirement after 54 years of service to the
State of New York in the field of law enforcement

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor those distinguished officers and citizens who would devote
themselves to public service, demonstrating great courage and diligence
in providing for the care and welfare of the citizens of their
communities and this great Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Within every community of the State of New York there are
certain individuals who, by virtue of their commitment and dedication,
command the respect and admiration of their community for their
exemplary contributions and service on behalf of others; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate John
Herritage upon the occasion of his retirement after 54 years of service
to the State of New York in the field of law enforcement; and

WHEREAS, Originally from the Eastside of Buffalo, New York, John
Herritage began his long and esteemed law enforcement career with the
Erie County Sheriffs' Department; in 1968, he joined the New York State
Police, and quickly rose from the rank of Trooper to Staff Inspector,
and then Major and Troop Commander of Troop G in Loudonville, New York;
and

WHEREAS, After two decades of service, John Herritage left the New
York State Police and served as Deputy Commissioner of the New York
State Division of Criminal Justice Services for seven years; in 1995, he
assumed the role of Director of Security for Albany Medical Center; and

WHEREAS, In this capacity, John Herritage was instrumental in
modernizing and expanding the hospital's Security Department; and

WHEREAS, Less than two years ago, John Herritage was promoted to the
title of Vice President of Security at Albany Medical Center, the
position from which he will officially retire in 2019; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those
dedicated public servants who unselfishly devote their lives to the
preservation of order and the protection of others are worthy and due
full praise for their commitment and noble endeavors; now, therefore, be
it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate John Herritage upon the occasion of his retirement after 54
years of service to the State of New York in the field of law
enforcement, and to wish him continued success in all his future
endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to John Herritage.
