COMMEMORATING the 5th Annual Coltrane Day Music
Celebration to be held on July 20, 2019

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to honor and pay
tribute to those cultural institutions and organizations whose
commitment to promoting the richness and diversity of the arts and
entertainment world has contributed to the strength, vitality, and
cultural enrichment of their communities and the great State of New
York; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 5th Annual Coltrane Day Music Celebration to be held at
Heckscher Park, Huntington, New York, on Saturday, July 20, 2019; this
auspicious event will host workshops that include music, dance, and
creativity sessions, and all proceeds will go to the restorations of the
Coltrane home in Dix Hills; and

WHEREAS, John Coltrane is considered to be a pioneer in the jazz
genre for his introduction of emotion into jazz; and

WHEREAS, Coltrane Day began in 2015 and was made in the memory of
John Coltrane to be a time of creativity and expression; the day was
also created to help others gain a deeper appreciation of John
Coltrane's contribution to jazz; and

WHEREAS, The mission of the Friends of the Coltrane Home in Dix
Hills is to restore the home to the way it was when the Coltrane family
lived there and open it to the public as a historic home to educate
children and all people about John and Alice Coltrane and their life's
mission to be a force for good through their music; and

WHEREAS, Coltrane Day, coordinated by the Coltrane home, preserves
Coltrane's legacy through education, outreach, and events and concerts;
and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals and organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by
all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 5th Annual Coltrane Day Music Celebration to be held on
July 20, 2019; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Friends of the Coltrane Home in Dix Hills.
