CONGRATULATING Ron Moshier upon the occasion of
his retirement as Sports Editor after 32 years of
dedicated service to the Observer-Dispatch

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor those distinguished citizens of this great Empire State who have
devoted themselves to faithfully serving the best interests of their
community and the needs of its residents; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Ron Moshier upon the occasion of his retirement as Sports
Editor after 32 years of dedicated service to the Observer-Dispatch; he
officially retired from this esteemed position on Friday, June 21, 2019;
and

WHEREAS, Ron Moshier has been on the sidelines reporting local
sports for more than four decades; he began his illustrious career with
the Observer-Dispatch in 1979, before leaving to become a sports
reporter and editor at the Herkimer Telegram; and

WHEREAS, Two years later, Ron Moshier started working at the
Cortland Standard, where he stayed until 1988, when he returned to the
Observer-Dispatch part-time; one year later he was promoted to a
full-time sports writer; he went on to be named Sports Editor in 2017;
and

WHEREAS, Ron Moshier grew up in Richfield Springs, New York, where
he was a captain for the Indians' Varsity Football, Baseball and
Basketball teams; following his high school career, he attended SUNY
Cortland, majoring in physical education and minoring in journalism; and

WHEREAS, After a legendary sports writing career which traversed
more than four decades, Ron Moshier has covered all of the Utica area's
biggest sports moments and has become a true staple in his community;
and

WHEREAS, Through the years, Ron Moshier has served with loyalty,
honor and distinction, earning the admiration, esteem and affection of
his colleagues; and

WHEREAS, Ron Moshier has, throughout his career and purposeful life,
served his community with integrity and devotion, continuously striving
to meet the needs of his readers through entertainment and
enlightenment; and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Ron Moshier upon the occasion of his retirement as Sports
Editor after 32 years of dedicated service to the Observer-Dispatch; and
be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Ron Moshier.
