HONORING Lindsay A. Miller upon the occasion of
her designation as recipient of the Dr. Henry
Viscardi, Jr. Advocacy Award on January 29, 2020

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those individuals within the great Empire State who have
made strong contributions to the disability community; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Lindsay A.
Miller upon the occasion of her designation as the 16th recipient of the
Annual Dr. Henry Viscardi, Jr. Advocacy Award presented at the 2020
Legislative Disabilities Awareness Day sponsored by the New York State
Assembly Task Force on People with Disabilities and the New York State
Assembly Committee on Mental Health on Wednesday, January 29, 2020; and

WHEREAS, The Dr. Henry Viscardi, Jr. Advocacy Award was created in
2005 to honor the late Dr. Henry Viscardi, Jr. for his lifelong
commitment to advocacy on behalf of people with disabilities; and

WHEREAS, The tremendous efforts Lindsay A. Miller has made to
improve and enhance the lives of New Yorkers with disabilities are
worthy of this recognition; and

WHEREAS, Lindsay A. Miller is the Executive Director of the New York
Association on Independent Living (NYAIL), a statewide membership
organization for Independent Living Centers; and

WHEREAS, Lindsay A. Miller joined NYAIL as the Advocacy Coordinator
in May of 2008, after receiving a Master's in Public Health from the
University at Albany, and has served as Executive Director since 2013;
and

WHEREAS, As Executive Director, Lindsay A. Miller has helped grow
the organization and the Independent Living network's presence through
the implementation and management of several statewide programs focused
on helping people with disabilities and older adults transition out of
nursing facilities and back into the community; and

WHEREAS, Under Linsday A. Miller's able leadership, NYAIL has
assisted in the transition of over 3,500 individuals and has helped lead
systems change efforts at the state level to increase community
integration of New Yorkers with disabilities of all ages; and

WHEREAS, Lindsay A. Miller works on a statewide level to encourage
the full integration of people with disabilities in the community and
serves as the voice of the disability rights community on a number of
statewide coalitions, workgroups, and committees; and

WHEREAS, Lindsay A. Miller has dedicated both her professional and
personal life to improving the lives of people with disabilities; and

WHEREAS, The initiatives Lindsay A. Miller strives to implement as a
passionate advocate for persons with disabilities mirror the priorities

this Legislative Body has before us today, the New York State Assembly
Legislative Disabilities Awareness Day 2020; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved to honor Lindsay A. Miller,
a leader and an advocate, recognizing her labors and the promise of her
future endeavors; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Lindsay A. Miller upon the occasion of her designation as
recipient of the Dr. Henry Viscardi, Jr. Advocacy Award by the New York
State Assembly; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Lindsay A. Miller.
