HONORING Deputy Police Chief Kevin Simons upon the
occasion of his retirement after more than 30 years
of distinguished service to the Rome Police
Department

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor those distinguished officers who would devote themselves to public
service, demonstrating great courage and diligence in providing for the
care and welfare of the citizens of their communities and this great
Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Within every community of the State of New York there are
certain individuals who, by virtue of their commitment and dedication,
command the respect and admiration of their community for their
exemplary contributions and service on behalf of others; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Deputy
Police Chief Kevin Simons upon the occasion of his retirement after more
than 30 years of distinguished service to the Rome Police Department;
and

WHEREAS, Born and raised in Rome, New York, Kevin Simons graduated
from Rome Free Academy in 1984; he went on to earn a degree in history
from Hamilton College in 1988, before working for New Method Bandage in
Rome, where he was eventually promoted to the position of sales manager
in charge of western New York and Pennsylvania; and

WHEREAS, Kevin Simons began his illustrious career in law
enforcement as a patrolman with the Rome Police Department on May 27,
1989; through the years, he climbed the ranks to hold such positions as
sergeant, detective, lieutenant, and captain before being promoted to
deputy chief in 2013, the esteemed rank from which he will retire; and

WHEREAS, During his tenure as Deputy Chief, Kevin Simons was
instrumental in getting the Rome Police Department accredited by New
York State; additionally, he played a vital role in the proposal and
creation of the Office of Professional Standards, which was established
to serve as a review committee for complaints against the department;
and

WHEREAS, A true asset to his community, Kevin Simons has coached
Rome sports for 30 years, officiated local sports for 34 years and is
the voice of Rome Free Academy hockey games; and

WHEREAS, In his capacity as Deputy Police Chief, Kevin Simons served
with loyalty, honor and distinction, earning the admiration, esteem and
affection of his colleagues and the community-at-large; and

WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Michelle, and their
three children, as well as two grandchildren, all of whom feel
privileged to be a part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those
dedicated public servants who unselfishly devote their lives to the
preservation of order and the protection of others are worthy and due
full praise for their commitment and noble endeavors; now, therefore, be
it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Deputy Police Chief Kevin Simons upon the occasion of his
retirement, and to wish him continued success in all his future
endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Deputy Police Chief Kevin Simons.
