MOURNING the death of Richard J. Naclerio,
distinguished citizen and devoted member of his
community

WHEREAS, There are certain outstanding members of our community who,
through their selfless commitment and dedication, have served to better
the quality of life in our community and have had a measurable positive
impact on the lives of its residents; Richard J. Naclerio was one such
individual; and

WHEREAS, It is with profound sorrow and deep regret that this
Legislative Body records the passing of Richard J. Naclerio, noting the
significance of his purposeful life and accomplishments; and

WHEREAS, Richard J. Naclerio of Pelham Manor, New York, died on
Sunday, May 16, 2021, at the age of 89; and

WHEREAS, Richard J. Naclerio was born and raised in the Bronx, New
York, as one of 10 children to Elizabeth and Salvatore Naclerio; and

WHEREAS, Throughout his prolific career, Richard J. Naclerio proved
himself to be a successful businessman as a developer, investor and
entrepreneur; he previously served as CEO and President of Naclerio
Contracting Corporation and later started RAN Consulting Corporation, a
mortgage brokerage firm where he served as CEO and President; and

WHEREAS, At the time of his death, Richard J. Naclerio spent his
busy days as an owner of the well-known Bronx catering establishments,
The Eastwood Manor and Maestros Caterers; and

WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to his
community, Richard J. Naclerio gave tirelessly of his time and energies
to many charities and organizations, including Sound Shore Medical
Health Systems, now known as Montefiore New Rochelle, where he served on
the Board of Trustees as Vice President for Mount Vernon Hospital, now
known as Montefiore Mount Vernon; and

WHEREAS, Additionally, Richard J. Naclerio served on the Board of
Directors of the Columbus Citizens Foundation and was Chairman of the
Scholarship Committee for 10 years, where under his able leadership,
scholarships have been granted to hundreds of Italian-American boys and
girls to advance their education and awareness of their Italian-American
heritage; and

WHEREAS, This extraordinary man was a retired Director of Patriot
National Bank as well as a former trustee of Calvary Hospital and Our
Lady of Mercy Medical Center; he also inaugurated an annual golf
fundraiser for the Little Sisters of the Poor; and

WHEREAS, As a graduate of Villanova University, Richard J. Naclerio
remained actively involved through his memberships of the Matthew Carr
Society and the 1842 Heritage Society; his creation of the Richard and

Barbara Naclerio Faculty Scholars Program encourages and supports the
productive pursuit of high-level research; and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, he endowed Villanova University with the
Richard J. Naclerio '54 and Barbara A. Naclerio Chair in Transatlantic
Commerce and Finance, and served on the Dean's Advisory Board; his
efforts and ceaseless dedication were recognized with the prestigious
Reverend Joseph C. Bartley, OSA, 2014 Alumni Medallion Award; and

WHEREAS, Richard J. Naclerio was the proud recipient of numerous
awards and accolades for his work, including the Ellis Island Medal of
Honor, The American Red Cross Service Award and Boys Town of Italy
Certificate of Recognition from the Italian Government; he and his wife
were also the 2014 Honorees of the Columbus Day Parade in New York City;
and

WHEREAS, Richard J. Naclerio is survived by his beloved wife of 62
years, Barbara, who was the most important person in his life; his
cherished children, Elizabeth D'Onofrio (Anthony), Lisa Argento (Joseph)
and Richard A. Naclerio (Elisa); his loving grandchildren, Elizabeth,
Michael, Barbara, Lauren, Nicholas, Samantha, Joseph, Matthew, Julianne,
Jessica, Dante, and Andrew as well as their step-grandchildren, Joey and
Dana; and his sister Rosann; and

WHEREAS, Richard J. Naclerio's infinite selflessness and benevolence
will shine on through his family's vivid and happy memories; his insight
and strength will forever serve as a beacon of love, light and hope to
the countless lives he touched; and

WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Richard J. Naclerio leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
who were privileged to have known and loved such an amazing man; he will
be deeply missed and truly merits the grateful tribute of this
Legislative Body; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Richard J. Naclerio, and expressing its deepest
condolences to his family; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Richard J. Naclerio.
