MOURNING the death of Mona Faison, loving mother,
distinguished citizen and devoted member of her
community
WHEREAS, There are certain outstanding members of our community who,
through their selfless commitment and dedication, have served to better
the quality of life in our community and have had a measurable positive
impact on the lives of its residents; Mona Faison was one such
individual; and
WHEREAS, It is with profound sorrow and deep regret that this
Legislative Body records the passing of Mona Faison, noting the
significance of her purposeful life and accomplishments; and
WHEREAS, Mona Catrice Faison of Brooklyn, New York, died on
Saturday, May 15, 2021; she was preceded in death by her beloved father
on April 12, 2021; and
WHEREAS, Born to Patricia Powell Faison and Hebert M. Faison in
Brooklyn, New York, Mona Faison graduated from Brooklyn Tech High
School; she went on to receive her bachelor's degree in Science
Management/Small Business Management and Entrepreneurship from the
University of Phoenix before earning a Master Certificate in
Organizational Leadership from Villanova University; and
WHEREAS, Mona Faison began her illustrious career in 1989 as a
Customer Service Representative at Verizon, where she worked her way up
to becoming Call Receipt Center Manager in 2007; and
WHEREAS, Diagnosed with a condition called Chiari Malformation and
Syringomyelia in 2009, Mona Faison, a staunch advocate for sharing
knowledge, began informing everyone about this rare disease; and
WHEREAS, While valiantly battling her disease, Mona Faison started
her own business, Liaison Enterprises LLC, which she founded in 2008,
serving as a venue and entertainment liaison and promoter; and
WHEREAS, Mona Faison also valued language, and as a poet she had a
way with words; her creative spirit drove many of her passion projects;
and
WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to her
community, Mona Faison gave tirelessly of her time and energies
motivating and mentoring those in her community and fighting for
social-economic change; and
WHEREAS, In 2012, this extraordinary woman founded P.E.A.C.E. for
Peace, which provided high level support, training, and development to
cultivate young men and women who were ready to become constructive
participants in their lives, communities, and society; and
WHEREAS, Mona Faison was truly committed to providing direct
individualized support and tools to educate and empower young people to
make better choices in their lives by employing alternatives to violence
and violent behaviors; and
WHEREAS, For this ceaseless dedication to her community, as well as
in recognition of her business acumen, Mona Faison was the proud
recipient of numerous awards and accolades; and
WHEREAS, While she was passionate about many things, above all her
greatest passion was being a mother to her beautiful daughter, Jordan
Monae Faison Shaw, who was born on January 12, 2007, and is the greatest
achievement of her life; and
WHEREAS, Mona Faison's infinite selflessness and benevolence will
shine on through her family's vivid and happy memories; her insight and
strength will forever serve as a beacon of love, light and hope to the
countless lives she touched; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Mona Faison leaves behind a legacy which will long endure
the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all who
were privileged to have known and loved such an amazing woman; she will
be deeply missed and truly merits the grateful tribute of this
Legislative Body; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Mona Faison, and expressing its deepest condolences
to her family; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Mona Faison.
